The article 20th century preceding "African American culture and politics" provides valuable info pertaining to African American culture and politics. Many developments in the 20th century had significant impact this subject matter. For instance, the post-WWII industrialization helped spur on the civil rights movement as many African Americans worked in industry. The major changes in politics and society had a profound impact on the civil right movement. The new technologies had key role in the development of African American music, especially hip hop, which the subject of this article has written about. Technological, political, sociological and economic developments of the 20th century have also been a key influence in the development of hip hop. The article on the 20th century helps the reader to develop their understanding of the context.

e.g. Noam Chomsky discusses "Slavery by Another Name"

The subject of the article has also declared "the role of new technologies and ideologies about race in U.S. life" as one of her research interests.

So I am opposed to the use of AWB to remove such a wikilink as was done on this page, see the diffs:

https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/w/index.php?title=Tricia_Rose&action=historysbmit&diff=405447369&oldid=405443607

https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/w/index.php?title=Tricia_Rose&action=historysubmit&diff=403316208&oldid=403306432

And already complained about here (revision history of the user, they have removed it from their talk page):

https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Hmains&diff=next&oldid=401724669

Such a usage of AWB allows users to repeatedly remove edits that are valuable without knowledge of the subject matter, disregarding complaints of other editors and inflating the user's edit count as well. I can see a number of other cases where an article about a particular time period would also provide important background and contextualizing information. The format of the number of the century is also correct, it is the title of the article and a common usage that saves space.
