Name of article
[edit]Why has this page been redirected? The program is called Tribe, not Going Tribal. --Mercifull 10:13, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- Perhaps it has different titles in the US and UK. I've seen it before (Junkyard Wars vs. Scrapheap Challenge). In the US it is most definitely Going Tribal. If the title is different where you are then the article should be updated to reflect the multiple names. --StuffOfInterest 10:36, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Surely as it is first and foremost a UK documentary series it should be called 'Tribe' with a redirect for 'Going Tribal' instead of the other way around. --willball1987
- I created the article as Going Tribal because that's what it is known as here in the US. However, if you think there's justification in changing the name to Tribe, be my guest. I was under the impression that since it is jointly produced by the BBC and the Discovery channel, it is both a British and an American show. Fearfulsymmetry 23:04, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- I don't see the need. UK nationalism aside (and to think how people complain about the US), both titles are mentioned in the article and both names get to the correct article. Flipping it is more trouble than it is worth. --StuffOfInterest 23:39, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Shouldn't it be mentioned that He almost fainted when a black man attempted to touch his penis? Just a thought. - CaptainSurrey talk
- How....ignorant. -Fearfulsymmetry 04:38, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- ignorant /????/ adj.
- 1 a lacking knowledge or experience. b (foll. by of, in) uninformed (about a fact or subject).
- 2 colloq. ill-mannered, uncouth.
- So, you're a fan of colloquial speech, then.--CaptainSurrey 20:52, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- He didn't faint because the man who touched his penis was black. He fainted because the man who touched his penis did so in a way that caused him to faint. Having said that, it was probably the most notable and talked-about moment of the first series and possibly warrants a mention. JF Mephisto 21:34, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- I would guess that fearful symmetry is referring to lacking knowledge or experience. But the colloquial definition does apply equally as well. Oh and so what if he is fan of colloquial speech it doesn't help your point in the slightest.--Goatan 10:47, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Wouldn't you faint if some guy started touching your penis? -- Boothman /tɔːk/ 10:58, 2 August 2006 (UTC).
- The point (beyond the fact that it wasn't that his penis was touched, but that the tribesman performed a physically uncomfortable ritualistic action on it) is that the talk page is a place for serious discussion of an article, not for people to make immature and asinine remarks that have little or nothing to do with the overall topic. And unless someone wants to add a synopsis of each episode, I don't believe the above event warrants inclusion, as the show has a number of other notable moments and it would be out of place to include just the one. -Fearfulsymmetry 20:03, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Redirect
[edit]I've redirected to Tribe as this is its original airing title, it was renamed Going Tribal when shown in the US, but the title should reflect its original name, and now it does.--NeilEvans 20:16, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- I've changed it back until the move can be done properly. This should have been handled as a page move rather than a content copy. Now and admin will need to clear the destination before a proper move can take place. Also, I believe the episode names should stay as just because one place doesn't use them they are still appropriate for another market. --StuffOfInterest 20:59, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Going Tribal → Tribe (series) – Tribe is the original title when aired in the UK NeilEvans 22:34, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Support. I've got no problem with it as both names are valid and the host, Bruce Parry, is British (Royal Marines I believe). Still, the proper name may be "Tribal (TV series)" rather than just marking it as "series". --StuffOfInterest 22:42, 28 August 2006 (UTC)- Actually, let me change that to neutral as I don't really care which way it ends up. --StuffOfInterest 10:57, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- Weak support. It doesn't really matter to me either way, although I think some evidence as to whether it actually started as a British show should be presented: I was under the impression that it was a joint creation of the BBC and the Discovery Channel. If it is jointly created by the UK and US, I don't see the need for a move. Fearfulsymmetry 23:07, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- Support - The programme is known mostly because it was on BBC rather than Discovery, so I would err on the side of Tribe (series), regardless of the British/American factor. -- Boothman /tɔːk/ 11:19, 29 August 2006 (UTC).
- I'm curious, from where do you draw that assertion? --StuffOfInterest 18:07, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- BBC is free-to-air, and is the most watched network. -- Boothman /tɔːk/ 18:37, 29 August 2006 (UTC).
- OK, true, in the UK. I watched the show here in the US and I'd say for a good number of people it was only seen on Discovery Channel as I don't believe BBC America carried it. Considering the number of households in the US which receive Discovery Channel, and the relative population of the US to the UK, there is every possibility that more people saw it in the US on Discovery Channel than in the UK on BBC. The reverse could be true, but without firm numbers it is just speculation one way or the other. --StuffOfInterest 18:54, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- OK here are the air dates for the UK, can someone find the air dates for the US?--NeilEvans 19:28, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- From this post it appears 9 Aug 2005 was the US premier. As the BBC website shows "03.01.05", it looks like the airing in the UK beat the US by several months. --StuffOfInterest 19:37, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- OK so going by those dates, even though it is co-produced, I feel Tribe should be the title of the article and Going Tribal should be redirected.--NeilEvans 19:48, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
