[edit]The lead quotes Ireland in settling for "about 1072" but there are a few issues with this.
- The Wikipedia article on Odo gives 1076 for the trial, quoting Ireland.
- This article states that Arnost was there as bishop of Rochester. Siward died in 1075 and was suceeded by Arnost who died within a year. Reference is again Ireland.
- The Wiki article on Arnost, quoting Fryde, gives the date of Arnot's consecration as 1076 with his death later in the year.
- Hasted in The History and Topographical Survey of Kent, Volume IV, p86 gives the date as 1076.
- The Cooper article (reference on main page) states: "A certain terminus a quo is offered by the inclusion of Arnost as bishop of Rochester among the witnesses, which pushes the creation of AB at least as late as 1075".
I have therefore ammended the lead to 1076, but have left the original referencfe in place in case this is proved to be more reliable. Please feel free to revert, but add your reasoning here. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 12:41, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for this. I wrote the original article over 4 years ago now and can't recall why I chose 1072, so am happy to cede to an editor who has made more recent analysis of the dates. Thanks Dick G (talk) 08:25, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
