Ethnicity?
[edit]I'm sure this is a very thorny topic, but I'm assuming from the biography that Trevor Manuel's ethnicity is Cape Coloured. Is this true? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.119.92.25 (talk) 23:54, 20 January 2007 (UTC).
As one of the tags at the bottom of the page mentiones "Cape Coloureds" I would assume this is the case. (by Ampers) Trevor Manuel(52) was married on the 27th of December 2008to Me. Maria Da Conceicao Ramos (49) at the L'Omarins Franchhoek. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.36.218.178 (talk) 18:22, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes he IS IN FACT coloured, but has been known to call himself "Black" at times. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Imbabazane (talk • contribs) 14:08, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
- If you're wondering why, have a look at the entry on the Black Consciousness Movement, and specifically the section on the early years. KongOlavKonfekt (talk) 10:25, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
Public spat with Jimmy Manyi
[edit]I took the liberty of renaming this section from 'racial conflict', as this connotes some kind of helter-skelter violence. However heated, the exchange between Manuel and Manyi remains a political debate.
While the stir triggered by Manyi's comments are certainly notable, the weighting of this article has now become very lopsided, with one out of the three paragraphs relating to Manuel's public life dedicated to this debate. After all, Manuel's notability is mainly derived from his role in the South African economy. At the very least, references to Manuel's open letter should be trimmed down heavily.
A more appropriate place to expand on the debate would be Coloured or Jimmy Manyi (which, sadly, does not exist yet).
I'll leave this here for a day or so, and then I'll come back and be bold. Comments would be appreciated! KongOlavKonfekt (talk) 10:13, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
