Date of birth
[edit]Has anybody got a sufficiently reliable date of birth for Donovan? IMDB is not sufficient for this purpose. —C.Fred (talk) 05:03, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- I hate birth date challenges. It's always so hard to find what are normally considered reliable sources for them. Usually, the dates just go unchallenged, and no one seems to mind. However, I found two sources for the 10/11/78 date, one an interview with Donovan in which he says his birth day is October 11, and another a local Southern California newspaper that says 10/11/78. I've updated the article accordingly. I hope that satisfies everyone.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:08, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- Well, a new editor changed the date to 1980, so I was at a loss which date was valid—that's the reason I deleted it altogether. The newspaper date is perfect, from a RS standpoint. Thank you for finding it! —C.Fred (talk) 16:51, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- I wasn't criticizing your removal of the date. I just find these sorts of issues frustrating on Wikipedia, but I understood why you did it. Just so you know, I believe the new editor who changed the date didn't do it for any good reason. As far as I can tell, there is no source that indicates 1980 (IMDb says 1978). The only conflict I found was whether the month/day was October 11 or October 7, which is why I was happy to find the interview with Donovan that actually specified the day of the month.--Bbb23 (talk) 17:14, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- I just had a look through the reliable sources noticeboard. Per Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 92#Facebook as a source for birth dates, using a Facebook page, even one that is self-published by the subject of the article, is not good practice because of the subject's potential motivation to misstate their age. Since we have secondary sources showing his age, those appear to take precedence. —C.Fred (talk) 11:16, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
- The same logic would apply for his thebiographysite.com profile: as a self-published source, it is no more reliable than a self-published Facebook page. —C.Fred (talk) 23:26, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- Us Weekly lists his birth date as October 11, 1978.[1] It's a gossip magazine, so I am taking that date with a grain of salt. —C.Fred (talk) 23:40, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
I really should make a Wikipedia account, considering how often I'm correcting things. I just updated the date of birth with two sources from FamilySearch and Ancestry. I hope they pass muster, because they're primary sources. Both sources use the same database, and for people who don't have either a FamilySearch or an Ancestry account, here is what the source says:

May this finally put an end to all the back and forth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.4.80.182 (talk) 23:08, 11 October 2018 (UTC)
I'm the one who added the FamilySearch and Ancestry California Birth sources above. I have an account now. No more unsigned stuff for me! BringReceipts (talk) 21:52, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
Hi, since the two sources kindly provided by BringReceipts can only be accessed if you have an Ancestry and/or FamilySearch account and not everyone reads the Talk page, I added a link to the California Birth Index database, which is free and anyone can access it. I also added a link to an interview published on October 11, 2010, in which Trevor confirmed he was about to turn 32. Could anyone kindly have a look at the two links and tell me if they are OK? - They are not admissible, per WP:BLPPRIMARY. —C.Fred (talk) 16:34, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
