Talk:Trevor Carlton

Trevor Carlton is an artist published by Disney Fine Art (www.collectorseditions.com/disney/artist.php?aID=508carlton), the licensed publisher of all Disney Fine Art. His artwork is prominently displayed at Disney Land, Walt Disney World, Euro Disney and Hong Kong Disney. He has entertained thousands of people with his live performances and has sold hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of art. He is currently traveling on the Disney cruise lines, painting for record crowds.

I am sure that people who are fans of his work, and believe me, there are many, will want to know more about him and his great success. Please take this into account before deleting this record. He has a huge fan base that will be greatly disappointed to see that he is not getting the recognition he deserves.

Please take all of the above into account before your "speedy delete." If I were to add some of the above information to my post, would that suffice in keeping the page online?

Also, please be aware that I will be posting more of our world renowned artist on Wikipedia in the near future. Any information that you could give me to avoid having to do this with each post, would be greatly appreciated.

Well, most of what you're suggesting above is irrelevant to the main problems with the article, so don't be in a hurry to add it. What is lacking that is required is arm's-length third-party expert references that assert the notability of this artist in a verifiable way. In other words, references to articles in newspapers, books, magazines, etc., that back up what you have said here. Right now, there's no one's word but yours as for these assertions, and encyclopedic content must be verifiable from third-party sources. There are other issues that could be discussed in relation to this article, but they would mostly be academic if you can provide references to back up these assertions as to the artist's fame, value, etc. You may want to read WP:Your first article and WP:Why was my article deleted? before you proceed further. I'm sorry that my attempt to explain the relevant policies to you meant to you that I was "rude and lonely" (I take it you're not aware that it's quite easy to tell who contributed unsigned comments). I'm going to assume good faith, and I recommend it to you as a policy. As it currently stands, the only reference for this article is a commercial site wherein this gentleman's artwork is sold, and I believe that renders it out of bounds as far as reliable sources are concerned. Although I agree with the editor who removed the speedy tag that there is an assertion of notability here, and that it should be possible for reliable sources to be found, my viewing of the first 30 Google results found only stores, and I'm wondering if there are any third-party experts who think this individual's work is notable. It occurs to me that I was somewhat less than completely useful. What would be best is if a reference could be provided from a book, for instance, written by a third party not within the Disney organization, and not a catalogue written by someone who sells the artist's work. If there's a book with a title like "The Great Artists of Disney" that refers to Mr. Carlton's work, that would be ideal. I suspect that there must be "art books" available containing large-sized plates of artwork and information about the artists; that's the kind of reference that would be the most useful. Any chance of a photo showing a prominent example of his work? or are all of his paintings copyright to Disney Corporation? Of course, a photo of the artist would also help. - Fayenatic (talk) 19:21, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
