Why the insistance that "Bruttenholm" is pronounced "Broom"? This is not how one would pronounce it in German. Maybe needs explanation if this is in fact the case.
To be fair it doesn't say Bruttenholm is pronounced 'Broom'; it says he's nicknamed 'Broom'.
On another note, it says in this article that Hellboy appeared/was born in East Bromwich, England. The main Hellboy article's timeline says it happens in Scotland. I've not read the comics/novels myself so I couldn't say but one of them must be wrong. 84.69.31.191 (talk) 23:13, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
The Bruttenholm/Broom thing is meant to be a joking reference to English names that are pronounced in completely different ways than their spelling would ever suggest (ie "St. John" is "SIN-jin"). It's not a nickname, it's the pronunciation of his name. This is mentioned by another character in Hellboy:_Seed_of_Destruction, and Bruttenholm himself says the same thing in the first issue of B.P.R.D.: 1946.
