Reverted edit
[edit]Hello @SounderBruce:. Can you explain "opinionated speech", and can you quote the "cited facts"? Here's mine "Another challenge is the topography of the Yucatan Peninsula. The highly porous terrain is a karstic region, characterized by cenotes, subterranean caverns filled with water that form when the limestone bedrock collapses. It will take careful engineering to build the tracks and adjoining infrastructure, and some observers are skeptical that the government can pull it off." ~ R.T.G 08:02, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
- I see problems with "Such a railway would represent a significant engineering task", which over-inflates things. The article should be presenting the engineering challenge in a subdued manner that doesn't sound like it's coming from a PR piece. SounderBruce 08:06, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
- I realise this is a contentious issue in South America. I really didn't expect to find an argument about this edit. It's pretty neutral and interesting stuff to me, engineering difficulties, and totally relevant to an engineering task. The penninsula is world famous for its aquifers. Difficulties they pose are of interest. As for the removed content about freight and passengers, my apology, it was in the last reference in the Spanish language. However, the mention of Ferrosur, I cannot find it in any of the articles. So it needs a small shuffle to pass DYK. ~ R.T.G 08:17, 26 February 2019 (UTC)@SounderBruce:~ R.T.G 08:18, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
- "Ferrocarril del Sureste" (aka the full name of Ferrosur) is mentioned in this cited link. I'll get around to adding the engineering at a later date, but this article needs to be prepped for DYK while it's still a hot topic. SounderBruce 08:19, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
- I'll have to ask you to add a reference to that in the article to qualify DYK. I haven't got the time right now to go over this point about "significant". I am not familiar with use of the word "significant" to mean anything other than "notable". I am assuming that in the USA it has this "suggestive" meaning or you have taken it from online definitions. To me, the fact the word can be used that way does not extend the definition of "notable" at all. A covert signal is "notable" in every sense of the word without adding definition to the word "notable". If you'll just fix the referencing in the article about Ferrosur for the DYK, I'll be back to it in an hour or two and it will pass DYK. @SounderBruce: ~ R.T.G 08:40, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

High speed rail?
[edit]Why does the infobox say this is high speed rail if it's only 200 km/h? GA-RT-22 (talk) 21:46, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Because by some definitions 200 kph is already HS Acidic user (talk) 22:23, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
Page name
[edit]I don't feel terribly strongly about this, but I'll point out that of the ref titles in English we currently have, I count one "Tren Maya", four "Mayan Train" and five "Maya Train". GA-RT-22 (talk) 18:42, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
- Yeah, for those that happen to be used on this page, yes, but a search for authoritative sources regarding the use of English, use the name Tren Maya like BBC, Railway Gazette, New York Times, etc. Keizers (talk) 00:42, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
Cost
[edit]I'm having trouble reconcling these two sources for cost:
- https://yucatanmagazine.com/tren-maya-expected-to-cost-over-60-billion-more/
The first says 321 billion pesos. The second says cost has increased from the original 140 billion and is now 200 billion.
I'm not sure on the wording, but I think the higher figure might include operating and maintenance for 30 years (costos de inversión en obra, equipamiento, reinversión en materiales rodantes y costos de operación y mantenimiento para 30 años), which would make a huge difference and would account for the much higher number. Unit conversions
[edit]@QuarioQuario54321: I don't like the nested parens. What would you think of using disp=or or something similar? GA-RT-22 (talk) 17:25, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
- We should build up consensus as to what to do first before moving on. QuarioQuario54321 (talk) 17:37, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

Mexican GP
[edit]The text talks about the Mexican GP but currently the event is held under the name Mexican City Grand Prix. Should this be adjusted? Acidic user (talk) 22:25, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
- Not unless the target article is renamed. GA-RT-22 (talk) 01:08, 17 May 2023 (UTC)
Physical connection
[edit]Is the Tren Maya phisically connected to Ferrocarriles Chiapas-Mayab? Peter Horn User talk 01:57, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- Tren Maya runs on the old FCM right-of-way as far as Pakal-Ná. South of that the tracks are abandoned. There are plans to extend the new tracks on the old right-of-way and eventually connect Tren Maya with the new Tren Interoceánico but no work has started. GA-RT-22 (talk) 03:44, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
