I'll take on this review, as part of the July 2021 Backlog Drive.--Harper J. Cole (talk) 10:43, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks! Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:21, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fangorn's Forest

[edit]
  • It would be better to use a map which centres Fangorn, or at least shows the entire forest.
  • It would. Maybe I'll do one someday.
  • [There was a path where the Entwash passed into a region called Wellinghall with the home of Treebeard, the shepherd of the forest.] Wellinghall was one of several ent-houses in Fangorn, I think (going by Tolkien Gateway)?
  • Not exactly 'houses'; called it one of his homes.
  • [Fangorn Forest was said to be humid, and trunks and branches of many kinds of tree grew thick allowing little light to penetrate.] Comma after "thick".
  • Added.
  • This section lacks citations.
  • Added.

Fictional biography

[edit]
  • [Apparently he knows otherwise.] Can you expand on this (e.g. a quote from Treebeard hinting he knows Gandalf is alive)?
  • There's no such direct statement, though readers and the cited scholar realise that's the case as events unfold.
  • [and wonders what evil he is really doing: why has Saruman taken up with Orcs, why there are so many Orcs in his woods, why these Orcs are able to bear sunlight, and he is angered by trees being felled "to feed the fires of Orthanc."] The last segment ("he is angered by...") needs to be in a new sentence, as it is not part of the list of things that Treebeard is wondering.
  • Fixed.
  • [Saruman is left in the tower] Maybe worth noting that the Ents were unable to damage Orthanc, hence why Saruman was holed up in there?
  • Done.
  • [Treebeard is still at Isengard] Isengard has been renamed the Treegarth of Orthanc by this point.
  • Added.
  • [when Aragorn, now King of Gondor, comes there after the victory over Sauron.] I'd suggest "a group led by Aragorn", as there were quite a few people in it.
  • Done.
  • [Treebeard delivers the keys of Orthanc to the King.] Worth mentioning that Aragorn gives the valley of Orthanc to Treebeard and the Ents?
  • Done.
  • Also, in the lead you say, [This meeting proves to have consequences that contribute significantly to the story and enables the events that occur in The Return of the King.] Perhaps expand on that in this section, explaining how the Ents' victory at Isengard fits into the bigger picture?
  • Added.

Portrayal in adaptations

[edit]

Worth a quick paragraph noting the differences between the book and film portrayals of Treebeard? They did change some details, most notably his initial refusal to fight Saruman.

  • Done.

Overall

[edit]

A strong article, which just needs a bit of fleshing out in a few places. I'll await your response.--Harper J. Cole (talk) 12:55, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Harper J. Cole Many thanks. I think we're all done to date. Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:10, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
