Article jumps from talking about what Treaty 8 consists of, to statements about a recent legal case involving someone arguing that it still applies. There's nothing in between explaining when it ceased to apply and why. -- 68.148.150.119 02:45, 11 March 2007 (UTC) 2007 03 10 DMS[reply]

I have removed the section about this legal dispute since it is, as you say, confusing, and it is a minor detail. There is no argument as to the continued validity of Treaty 8. Everyone agrees it is valid. The policy of Canada is to exempt from income tax income earned by status Indians ON RESERVE. Benoit, who worked off reserve, argued that his income should nonetheless be tax exempt on the basis of a promise allegedly made by the treaty commissioner. A proper write up of this case could form part of this or another Wikipedia article, but surely, if this article is to be expanded, the priority should be a discussion of the litigation regarding the location of the western boundary of the region encompassed by Treaty 8.Bill (talk) 03:35, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
