Street Nomenclature
[edit]The City of Calgary does not employ "th" on the end of street names. For example, "17th Avenue" should be written "17 Avenue". This applies to all streets and avenues in the city. I suggest the page be corrected for this. -User:MazriM_TaiM

- HOLD ON. Before you change anything, I'm afraid I have to disagree. The city does not use the "th" on road signs for simplicity. It clutters up signs. As a driver, visibility and legibility are far more important than grammar and language rules (obviously). However, when writing in the English language, it is ALWAYS proper to add the "th" or the "st" or the "rd" or whatever it may be. THAT is the way it is. The City of Calgary does not have the authority to change such conventions. --Arch26 04:48, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
You should probably go by what the local newspaper(s) do. At WikiProject New York City Public Transportation, we decided (before my time) to add the suffix and spell out abbreviations like "St" and "Av". On the other hand, WikiProject Washington Metro uses the exact form that appears on signs and maps, although in that case that means to include the suffix (Mt Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center). When talking about the actual streets, I recommend going by newspaper usage or always including the suffix; those may never be actually different. --NE2 16:55, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
Streets West of Downtown
[edit]There probably should be an inclusion of 45 Street since it is a fairly major road running from Spruce Drive to Glenmore Trail in the SW.
Signage
[edit]We could also note that some streets and avenues are referred to with a single direction only on many signs. For example 9 Avenue SW/SE is often called 9 Ave S on many signs. There are numerous other examples of this. Bold text
- "9 Ave S" would only be referred to at the junction of SW and SE, for example, when running across Mcleod Trail, which is the delineation between east and west. It would make no sense to indicate SW/SE at that spot, so simple "S" is indiated.139.48.25.61 (talk) 17:18, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
