This page on cisgenesis: says that a transgene may also be a synthetic gene, but I can't figure out how to fit that into the wording of the introduction paragraph. 213.202.134.29 (talk) 17:17, 2 November 2009 (UTC) []

Transgene Page Editing
[edit]I notice this page has a large amount of transgenic methods in animals but only briefly mentions plants.
There should be another tab of 'current uses' talking about transgenic approaches in plants; especially economically important plants. I suggest using golden rice, Flavr Savr tomato, and glyphosate resistant crops as examples.
This page should make notice of recent advances biotechnology mainly including ZFPs, TALEN, CRISPR. These molecular approaches have become increasingly useful in building transgenic organisms. Currently this page is laid out in such a way that this material would probably fall in the 'history' section. In the future, I recommend the addition of a 'Methods' tab in which transgenic approaches can be listed and described.
The controversy section should also contain a little blurb about the anti-GMO craze and maybe mention the non-GMO project as an example.
The addition of figure would also make this page more aesthetically appealing. A figure depicting foreign DNA being inserted into another segment of DNA would probably be a nice addition.

Rated "top" as this goes along with GMOs. It should probably be merged with genetically modified organism. - tameeria 01:19, 19 February 2007 (UTC) |
