[edit]With [Moscow-Saint Petersburg railway] running in a straight line for about 650km (with its "Tsar's finger" section being recently straightened out, naming the Trans-Australian railway the longest piece of a straight track in the world with its 478km is probably a mistake. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.179.36.236 (talk) 22:58, August 24, 2007 (UTC)
- The long straight on the Trans=Australian line is supposed to be a "dead" straight without any curves at all.
- Conspicuous by its absence in the BBC report about the straightening of the Moscow to St. Petersburg line is any claim to be the longest straight in the World. It may well be that this line looks pretty straight on a map, but in practice contains slight but noticable curves when you travel on it. - To make things hard, Moscow-Saint Petersburg Railway does not have a list of intermediate stations whose maps can be read.

- The TAR straight starts at the 797km between Ooldea and Watson and terminates at the 1275km between Loongana and Nurina, a distance of 478km.

- Have removed reference to the Moscow - St Petersburg Railway. An examination of any map will show that (even with the "Tsar's finger" removed) no part of that line consists of anything even close to the Trans's 478 km of dead-straight track. -- Picapica (talk) 11:22, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Spelling
[edit]First I was removing the e at the end of arguably, and then reading the information above - I would suggest that further refs would be needed to substantiate the nature of the russian line - just one or two refs seem inadequate for such a claim - imho SatuSuro 13:32, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

NAMED SERVICES
[edit]the article states that the trans Australian ceased operations on the introduction of the Indian-pacific. this IS NOT correct both ran on alternating services on the Trans-Australian route. I travelled both services in 1986, at the time a QR station ops employee, doing long distance rail booking including assisting with a few reservations on the services in question.

Intermediate stations

[edit]I can't see how the "east–west rail corridor" is essentially different from Trans-Australian Railway. This article has existed since 2005, while the other one is a stub created in 2008.
