USTRAB
[edit]In this text is nothing about the UBSTRA. In german is a page about this. --MOE1997 (talk) 11:37, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- Well, as the article does not really say a lot about the rest of the current network, it is no surprise (to me) that it doesn't mention the USTRAB (Untergrundstraßenbahn = underground tramway network). |FDMS 11:47, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up. I have been meaning to complete the translation of this article, and will do that soon. I have also previously considered translating de:U-Straßenbahn Wien, but got stuck at the first hurdle, which was trying to figure out what name to give the English Wikipedia article. I have seen both "Ustrab" and "USTRAB" used on English language websites, but I'm not sure how often this expression is used in English, nor which form of it is preferable, nor whether, in any case, it would be better to use something different as the name of the article. Any comments on any of these points?? Bahnfrend (talk) 13:55, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- Translation would be great, as I am a native German speaker I could help you doing so if necessary. As a page title I would suggest USTRAB, as it is the abbreviation most commonly used by the Wiener Linien (they obviously do not care a lot about capitalization, as it is an abbreviation it in my eyes makes more sense to capitalize everything). Also, de.WP and Commons use USTRAB rather than UStrab. |FDMS 19:31, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- I think the USTRAB is a important part of Vienna tram system because of U2. Some parts of the U2 start as Ustrab from Station Museumsquatier to Rathaus.--MOE1997 (talk) 19:17, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
- Well, for our article Trams in Vienna (ugly title BTW) the still existing USTRAB between Eichenstraße and Hauptbahnhof is probably more important … |FDMS 20:08, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
- When we make a new page. We it call the new page "Undergroundtramwaysystem Vienna" instead of USTRAB. It sounds better than USTRAB.--MOE1997 (talk) 13:52, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
- To me (a native English speaker who also speaks German), that looks a bit too German to be suitable for English Wikipedia. Another option might be "Vienna sub-tarmac tramway", as used on this English language page; I think that's a pretty good translation of "Unterpflaster-Straßenbahn Wien", the full-length version of "Ustrab". Incidentally, Trams in Vienna is a standard form name for articles of this type, eg Trams in Lisbon, Trams in Melbourne, and I think it's okay. Bahnfrend (talk) 14:29, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
- Why not use the abbreviation? We also have Vienna U-Bahn instead of Vienna Underground railway or any other English translation. I wouldn't suggest renaming the article, but only because most other tramway articles use Trams in [...], which I would rather use for articles about tramway rolling stock. Fortunately, we have Tram transport in [...] as a standard at least at Commons, where I created commons:Category:Tram transport in Vienna a few months ago (which we unfortunately cannot link to from this article). |FDMS 15:32, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
- I mean an extra page for Trams in Vienna about USTRAB in English. --Mö1997/MOE1997 (talk) 16:27, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
