Then get some dates right. The new terminal opened in 1983; "The International Wool Shed.", as Pricey called it. The aerobrige system opened circa 1995. Major upgrade of parking and taxiways to concrete substructure was circa 1971.220.244.73.38 (talk) 02:49, 9 November 2018 (UTC)
Rename proposal
[edit]According to the website International has been dropped from the offical name. I request your opinion with summary by 18 June 12:00 UTC. Soredewa 09:01, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed, name of article should reflect official name. Michellecrisp 13:47, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
There is a problem with the name Garbutt that crops up throughout this article. Townsville Airport was established on its present site in January 1939. It has never been called Garbutt airport. RAAF Base Townsville was established on the same site in 1940. Two years later in 1942 the airfield was greatly expanded, and five other military airfields were built or occupied in the area immediately surrounding Townsville. To avoid confusion, RAAF Base Townsville was renamed RAAF Base Garbutt - the name of the local railway siding - in that year. That name persisted until 1 January 1951 when the base had returned to approximately its pre-war establishment and the surrounding airfields were all de-commissioned. Its name then reverted to RAAF Base Townsville. So for the eight years 1942-1950 Garbutt was the name of the RAAF base, but it was never the name of the civil airport. There's been no response to this comment after a month, so I've re-written the first paragraphs of the history to explain the relationship between Townsville Airport and RAAF Base Townsville. Peter Bell (talk) 09:47, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
Regional Pacific Airlilnes
[edit]I'm dropping the references to Regional Pacific Airlines, as it seems - checking their website - that they are now only operating from Cairns to Bamaga.Johnmc (talk) 06:25, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
Aviation weather links
[edit]Canadian and American airports generally contain a link to an aviation weather source in their external link section. Why should airports in this country be different?DSatYVR (talk) 22:15, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
Redevelopment When?
[edit]Article claims redeveloped terminal opened in 1981. I suspect it was a good 4 or 5 years after then. I went through TSV mid 1981 and the old weatherboard terminal was certainly still in use. It dated from the late 40s. The airbridges were not installed until after the new building, dubbed the "wool shed" by DJ Steve Price, was completed. I remember the new shed was progressively built from the southern end, as the old terminal was progressively demolished. 220.244.78.245 (talk) 02:04, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
1983 it was. Now referenced.27.33.81.78 (talk) 01:15, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
There's a photo of an aerobridge claimed to be 1981. My father was the YBTL airport manager until mid-1981. There was no aerobridge then, just the old 1958 terminal and the late 1960s extensions to handle the jet baggage volumes. The international woolshed (as local DJ Steve Price still calls it some 35yrs later) came around 1983, and airbridges came quite a number of years later.203.220.102.111 (talk) 09:52, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
