"No accent" ?? (Under language)

[edit]

I'm no sociolinguist, but isn't the claim that the Tourangeaux (or anyone) speak French "devoid of any accent" naive? Sure some people believe they have no accent, but they're deluded. Can some linguist rewrite this pls? Coughinink 15:00, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey buddy do the research then post a solution. Like you said you are not a linguist, just a guy with a comment

Hello there. I live in Tours and we are said to have no accent, and we pretend it. In fact, as everyone, we have an accent. But the way of speaking french in Touraine is considered as the main way. We you learn french, you learn the way to speak in Touraine, not the way to speak in Calais or Marseille. Désolé si ce n'est pas très clair. En gros, il y a bien un accent tourangeau, mais il est considéré comme l'accent standard du français. FreD 16:51, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is considered as the purest french (standard one as FreD says) due to the presence of several great kings in this area during the french "Renaissance" period approximatively from XIV'th to XVI'th centuries. Touraine was the heart of their kingdom and also their favorite place for hunting and climate as great castles of Loire attest it. Following kings established definitively in Paris. Actual examples should be given of the dialects of Tour and Paris. The reader can judge for himself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.147.175.160 (talk) 15:52, 14 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nice place

[edit]

Not relevant to this article, but I went to Tours in 2006 and I thought it was a great place, I'd love to go back again. Mglovesfun 14:40, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

English Translation

[edit]

I would like to improve the article by copy-editing some of the English text. Mikeo1938 (talk) 23:02, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I've made a start but there is still a lot to do. Perhaps the existing text was generated by a machine translation program ... (?) Mikeo1938 (talk) 15:35, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mosque reference

added a line and reference about plans to build a mosque. The website referenced to is that of the British National Party. I was unable to find a more objective source for this. I think the passage should be rephrased (with a credible source) or removed. Ideas? 82.170.157.29 (talk) 23:11, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What is missing from the recently created city timeline article? Please add relevant content! Contributions welcome. Thank you. -- M2545 (talk) 17:27, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 3 September 2018

The result of the move request was: Not moved. As pointed out in the discussion, the comparison with Wells is not apples–apples. While there are many places named "Wells" and it's also a common surname, there are only three uses of "Tours" on the Tour disambiguation – Professional golf tours, which is a partial-title match, the primary topic, and a football club named after the primary topic. The French places named "Tours-something" are listed on the La Tour disambiguation. – wbm1058 (talk) 19:55, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ToursTours, FranceWP:ASTONISH, see Talk:Wells, Somerset#Requested move. Note that the category is at Category:Tours, France per Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2011 July 14#Category:Tours and the Commons category at Commons:Category:Tours (France) with Commons:Category:Tours for electronic media. I suggest "Tours" becomes a DAB and it can also list meanings such as those at fr:Tours (homonymie) such as Tours, Texas and the places in France with a suffix. However a DAB at "Tours" might end up duplicating a lot of things so maybe it should be a combined DAB at Tour. Crouch, Swale (talk) 13:00, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
