Nu Metal, I don't think so?

[edit]

Staind Tormented is very heavy, I don't believed it is Nu-metal. Nu-metal is rapping lyrics, well, it is not always rapping but it is tuned down heavy guitars with screaming and a lot of times it has rapping. It is also known for it's adding hip hop elements like adding a DJ player. It also has no solos at all. Tormented has tuned down guitars but it did had a solo, I can't see that for Nu-Metal.

I called this album heavy metal-alternative metal at best, also this album has no record deal so why it is nu metal? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mikeis1996 (talkcontribs) 19:23, 28 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

April 2017 copyedit

[edit]

Statik N and interested parties, I've completed requested copyedit on the article. Here is a summary of my changes:

  • General MoS: Some curly quotes/apostrophes had been copied in with the quotes, I straightened these per MOS:CURLY. After first mentioning a person by their full name, generally use their surname MOS:SURNAME. There was also a bit of overlinking, which can hide the more valuable links.
  • A little bit of rephrasing for clarity, conciseness, tone and flow.
  • It's preferred to have bass guitar(ist) rather than bass(ist), because bass can be ambiguous (ie: many musical instruments have a bass version).
  • Some punctuation around quotes. It can look a little weird, but for clarity Wikipedia uses the logical quotation style MOS:LQ which only includes punctuation inside double quotes if it is part of the quote (after checking sources, in some cases I moved terminal punctuation inside the quotes). Particularly watch titles in double quotes. Also, double quotes are not used around text in quotation templates.
  • I tried to balance the Background section by moving the quote box up from the Music and lyrics section, and converting it into more of a blockquote (the template {{quote box}} is discouraged MOS:BQ). The quote is about the music scene, and I thought it fit a little better there (feel free to move it back if you disagree).

And here are some comments:

  • One of the quotes refers to the album as tOrmenteD. If that gets enough use, it could be included in the lead as something like: Tormented (sometimes styled as tOrmenteD). If you put that in, reference the source (Lollipop). (It'd be interesting if those capital letters OD were another suicide reference (ie: for "overdose") but I can only guess at that.)
  • There was a quote which ended which is shock the hell out of" Durst. I felt that broke the flow and moved Durst inside the quote in brackets (the period stays outside).
  • Another quote goes "grittier and more raw than" Staind's "subsequent releases". The non-quoted part in the middle breaks the flow for me. I would prefer to insert it in brackets as "grittier and more raw than [Staind's] subsequent releases" (or replace it with ellipsis [...]) but I was unable to verify the source for accuracy. Another alternative could be: "grittier and more raw" than Staind's subsequent releases – which keeps the more subjective part of the opinion in quotes so it's not in Wikipedia's voice.
  • There should be consistency between Lollipop and the Lollipop, whether or not it's preferred with "the".
  • It's not explicitly stated who wrote the music for the album. It would be good to include that if it can be sourced.

Please post any questions or comments here. I'll try to be available for follow-up and will keep this page on my watchlist for at least a few weeks. – Reidgreg (talk) 21:58, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Genre War: Nu Metal or not?

[edit]

On the main Staind page, Dysfunction page, and Break The Cycle Page you will find one thing in common: Nu Metal. But, with Tormented, there seems to be an issue of whether or not the album should have nu metal in it’s genre section. I believe that if it is listed in the aforementioned pages, it should be in Tormented’s page. Even though only a few songs are considered nu metal, that’s the case with the other two albums. So why is Tormented in particular such an issue? But, that’s just my thoughts. I’m not changing the page anymore so you guys do whatever want with it. My bad, nu metal is listed on the self-titled album’s page as well. Morticide666 (talk) 07:07, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
