Sources for Tony Zappone bio

[edit]

Why are there no sources or references in this article? --K72ndst 16:43, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My primary source for minute details in this article was Tony Zappone himself, whose activities have been well known in the Tampa Bay area during the more than 40 years of his involvement in local media and business. Others include:

  • The Tampa Tribune (former staff members)
  • H. Doyle Harvill, former publisher, The Tampa Tribune (813-254-5854)
  • Leonard Brown, former city editor, The Tampa Times (813-876-4003)
  • Roscoe Glisson, assignment editor, WFLA-TV News, (813-228-8888)
  • Jule McGee, operations manager, WTVT-TV News Department (813-876-1313)
  • Photography of John F. Kennedy: http://www.big13.net/JFK%20In%20Tampa/JFK%20Tampa1.htm
  • Meeting with Robert Kennedy: Photo: http://www.big13.net/JFK%20In%20Tampa/jfk_tampa15.htm
  • Witness to meeting with Robert Kennedy: Hector Alcalde, former Chief of Staff to Congressman Sam Gibbons, now president of Alcalde & Faye, Washington lobbyists, http://www.alcalde-fay.com/meet_the_firm/BiosDetail.cfm?id=25 , phone, 703-841-0626.
  • Incident with Gene Holloway - Debbie Cazin, former wife of Gene Holloway and his wife during the years mentioned in the bio, 813-817-1449
  • Reference The Oracle, USF student newspaper, http://www.usforacle.com/history/
  • Work with NBC Monitor, Arch Deal, former news director, WFLA-TV, 813-920-1251
  • Howard Hughes Hoax - viewed newspaper clippings from Tampa Tribune

Tony's contributions to this article, other than an extensive interview, were merely clarification, minor correction of facts, and expansion of facts.

There is much more to this biography and I've been adding to it from time to time. I will cease doing that. However, this is an unusual man who has done a great deal in his life. He is humble and rather embarassed when people refer to seeing this bio online. He would not be at all offended if it was taken down. However, I've seen many bios here of people with minimal accomplishments, poorly written and which have remained unchallenged.

I don't think it's practical or smart to write a lucid biography and quote sources for every detail. That would take an article from an excellent read to a frightening sludge of type. Because this man is not a national star, there are not a lot of publications that can be cited and since his life as a common citizen was lived mostly prior to the Internet, there are not a lot of sites that can be linked to. I can supply newspaper clippings, photographs, and other documents to prove every fact written in this piece.

Though people who have read it have been impressed with the quality and readibility, obviously there is somebody who wants this taken down so delete if you must. I've done a lot of work on this article and now I'm just tired.

Respectfully,

This article really needs to cite sources, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia of previously published material and not "original research", i.e., unpublished material. You mentioned having newspaper clippings – that would be ideal to verify the key points (not "every detail") of the article. As an example, you might want to take a look at an article I wrote about an NBC cameraman and video editor of the 1950s–1980s, Walter Balderson.  JGHowes  talk 23:54, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notability as a photojournalist is established, author states sources are available, needs citations and a stronger lead paragraph, but deletion is not warranted. - Dravecky (talk) 16:29, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
