Initial description of caper
[edit]I found
- where six American diplomats were exfiltrated from Iran by disguising them as a Canadian film crew with team leader CBC cameraman Dennis Packer and passports supplied by the Canadian government.
My initial focus was on the ambiguously placed word "with", which could hint the film crew had Packer and passports, both supplied by the Dominion. That IMO invited confusion (even if Packer was civil servant -- or a reserve military officer) about whether Packer was ordered there by the Minister of State or offered the chance to serve above and beyond, after his bosses recommended him as a cool head.
On reflection, i think there are also contrary hints (far too subtle): e.g. the film clearly implies that Mendez was in charge on the ground, so Packer was, if anything, posing as the leader of the mock film team. On that basis, i infer that this wording probably catches, more clearly, the intent of its originator:
- ...six American diplomats were exfiltrated from Iran. They posed as a Canadian film crew, accompanied by the authentic CBC cameraman Dennis Packer, and carried passports issued by the Canadian government specifically to misrepresent them as Canadians. The action was the basis of the 2012 film Argo, directed by Ben Affleck, who starred as Mendez.

- BTW, was Mendez also on a Can passport? An authentic one?

- Here's Mendez's account which seems quite detailed. According to this he was on a faked "European" passport. Also Dennis Packer isn't mentioned at all. Since I can't find any mention of him in any of the authoritative accounts of this event, and was inserted by a editor who made numerous false edits to this article, I've removed it. Appalling that this falsehood lasted in this BLP for 5 years. Slp1 (talk) 01:22, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
Tony Mendez Appears to Have Had Four Children - Three sons and one daughter
[edit]This article on Tony Mendez only references three children. I found an obituary for Ian Mendez at [[1]] that lists another son, Jesse Mendez.

Overview
[edit]Why is the overview of the article not in the upper portion of the page? This is redundant and unnecessary. I recommend it be merged in some form with the first two sentences of the article.

Age
[edit]It says he was born 1940 and died 2009 at age 78. Sounds weird to me. 2A02:AA16:387F:E580:6052:7F07:4890:DB0C (talk) 18:32, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
