[edit]He was the last Smoky Mountain Wrestling Champion.???
This is so not true...i'm removing it.
I'm pretty interested in the idea that Tommy Rich won the NWA title in exchange for sexual favors. Do you have a real source on this one?
Until there is actual confirmation of the Rich/NWA title story, I'm removing the line referring to sexual favors. It has been well-rumored, not "well-known." 65.186.74.194 23:31, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
I object to the phrasing that Ted Turner bought the NWA in 1988. The NWA is an alliance of independent promotions, not a single entity. My understanding is that Turner bought the Crockett promotion (which contained the lion's share of NWA territories -- but not all of them). There is confusion because Crockett was President of NWA at the time and apparently referred to his super-territory as the NWA. But the NWA continues to operate to this day and is (and was) still separate from the Turner purchase that became WCW and then was absorbed by WWE. I don't think any of that history needs to go in the Tommy Rich article...but the statement that Turner bought the NWA is just not correct. He bought the single largest promotion in the NWA.
