Untitled
[edit]There is no need for two articles about Tom Longboat, especially when they repeat much of the same information. I propose moving Tom Longboat and the Golden Age of Distance Running article to Tom Longboat (the more appropriate title, and the only article with links from articles not about Tom Longboat), wikifying it, and then adding any additional material from Tom Longboat. Merged articles about Tom Longboat

Occupation in Toronto?
[edit]Today's Globe and Mail has an article about Tom Longboat, indicating that Longboat worked as a garbage collector in Toronto after WWI. Is this true? If so, should it be included in the article (my view is that it should be; it's disgraceful that someone who was both a sports legend and a war hero was not treated with more respect) and is The Globe and Mail an acceptable source for this? vttoth (talk) 16:49, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
Birth year and wife's name
[edit]I added a link to his CEF attestation paper. This military record lists his birthdate as July 4, 1886, and his first wife's first name as Loretta. Are there any better sources to back up the other info in this wiki article (1887 birth year? Wife's name as Lauretta ?) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 32.97.110.58 (talk) 15:21, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
Three questions
[edit]Three questions I have about the article of Tom Longboat are:
1. Is the article neutral or is there a bias opinion? This article is quite neutral and seems to have no bias opinions as it states his personal life, his Legacy and his athletic career.
2. Is everything in the article relevant to the article topic? All the information in the article is relevant to the Topic and gives a great brief outline on Tom's life and some of the things that he was able to accomplish.
3. Is there any information missing or is there any information that is outdated? All information about Tom is up to date. A more detailed description about his running career and the paths he followed or why he chose to go to war for his country rather than just focusing strictly on his athletic career. Three questions + adding more content
[edit]1. Is each fact referenced with an appropriate, reliable reference?
Answer: No, the entire first section of "Athletic History" is not referenced, despite several factual claims.
2. Check a few citations. Do the links work? Is there any close paraphrasing or plagiarism in the article?
Answer: Yes, the links work, no, there does not appear to be close paraphrasing or plagiarism.
3. Is any information out of date? Is anything missing that could be added?
Answer: The date of the information is within reason, but Tom Longboat had an interesting and complex life, very little of which is referenced on this page. I would like to add a significant amount of information, mostly specific high profile races, as well as his troubles with the Canadian organizations which decided amateurism who actively discriminated against him due to his Aboriginal heritage.--SunFlash (talk) 15:47, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
Tom Longboat birth date
[edit]While reading this article, I noticed that Wikipedia lists Longboat's birth year date as 1887, yet the picture of the of the historical marker plaque located in Ontario shows his birth year date as 1886. So which is it?96.11.118.98 (talk) 14:52, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
- I noticed that too. 214.3.138.230 (talk) 16:28, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
