Accuracy of information

[edit]

Moved from my user talk page: Most of the data ref my fathers football career are wrong, so I attempted to give the correct details and you removed them? 82.3.211.23 (talk) 23:45, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's a matter of supplying reliable sources for the corrections.
  • 10 August 2015 [1]: created by @Aitkegs: with birth date "8 April 1930", source: Litster, John. Record of Post-War Scottish League Players. Norwich: PM Publications
  • 24 April 2016 [2]: Martin0408 edits it to "18 September 1927", but provides no alternative source
  • 17 December 2017 [3]: changes are reverted for lack of a reliable source
  • 10 September 2018 [4]: Martin0408 makes changes again, refers to source "son", later reverted for lack of reliable source

Since then there's been a back and forth on this, but no changes have offered an alternate reliable source than the ones given so far:

  • McAllister, Jim (2002). The Sons of the Rock - The Official History of Dumbarton Football Club. Dumbarton: J&J Robertson Printers
  • Litster, John. Record of Post-War Scottish League Players. Norwich: PM Publications
  • "Thomas Edward Donegan death record". Scotland's People[1]

If anyone has access to the first two, maybe they can consult it to see if a mistake was made. The third is an online resource in the gov.uk domain, but appears not to be publically accessible. Or maybe someone can provide another source that would attest to the dates and places. signed, Willondon (talk) 01:59, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
