Tolerance coning vs. tolerance stacks
[edit]I have heard the terms "Tolerance Coning" and "Tolerance Stacks" used interchangeably in the UK. However, although a web search finds many pages for "Tolerance Stack", today it finds none for "Tolerance Coning". Is the latter only used locally here in the UK? - I have never heard of this term and a google search doesn't results in anything, however I found that "tolerance cone" seems to be commonly used in electrical engineering applications. Based on the description on this page it seems to be describing tolerance stacks, so I think they ought to be merged. Especially if it's just a UK vs. US difference in meaning. - Since creating this page I've been looking out for the term. I hear it verbally from time to time, always referring to the progression of tolerance over time though a series of stages, for example from an original manufacturer's measurement to a receiving acceptance measurement and so on, typically for a single parameter. I hear the term tolerance stack used more for tolerances more tangibly together as a group at the same time (which may be multiple variable parameters).Zwoorl (talk) 20:57, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
