76ers NBL

[edit]

The modern-day 76ers franchise played its original 3 seasons in the NBL before joining the NBA in 1949 (similar to the modern-day Hawks franchise). Jericho735 (talk) 07:04, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Divisions vs. Conferences

[edit]

As stated on the List of NBA champions page "NBA Finals have been played ... contested between the winners of the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference (formerly Divisions before 1970). As such, the headings of the tables from 1970 onwards should be updated. Alielmi1207 (talk) 13:24, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a link to that discussion. – sbaio 14:01, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not arguing that they were known as Divisions prior to the 1970–71 season. What I'm saying is that they've been known as Conferences since. Even the Eastern Division (NBA) and Western Division (NBA) pages referenced in the discussion state "The division existed until the 1970–71 NBA season when the NBA expanded from 14 to 17 teams and realigned into the Eastern and Western conferences with two divisions each." As we know, each conference now has three divisions. So, unless these pages are incorrect, then the Timeline of the NBA page should be updated to make it clear that they became conferences beginning with the 1970–71 season. As it stands, the first three bullets state:
  • The league was divided into Eastern and Western Conferences.
  • The East and West divisions were retained.
  • The Atlantic, Central, Midwest, and Pacific divisions were created.
The second and third bullets make it sound like there are a total of six divisions. To clear up this confusion, I would like to suggest that the second bullet be deleted and the first bullet modified slightly, including adding links, so that it states:
In addition, the headings for the table columns from the 1970 season onwards should be changed to "Eastern" and "Western". Alielmi1207 (talk) 11:35, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You should have pointed out the error that I made in my edit when you created this discussion. It is your duty to be precise when starting a discussion. – sbaio 12:00, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
