would it be appropriate to mention or contain links to common companies in the industry

Here are some items that should be mentioned if for no other reason than further research

Simplex Time Recorder Company - Created the first commercial timeclock. (note: Simplex aquired by Tyco and merged with Grinnell creating Simplex-Grinnell that sold the time and attendance division to Kronos Inc.

Mention and maybe links to the following companies that are major players in the industry: Cincinnati/Amano (primarily punch clocks) ,Kronos (by far the larges provider of high end automated attendance in the US) ,Infotronics ,Synel ,Acroprint (primarily punch clocks) ,Peoplesoft

I don't agree that commercial interests should be mentioned, as they refer to North American companies only. There are larger European and Asian companies active in the same field and, whilst not well known in North America, they have a larger presence in their respective territories than the companies previously listed. The mention of commercial interests in a specific geographic region points to a bias by the article author(s), somewhat against the point of Wikipedia.org.

First, I would ask Mr Mandlbaur to not delete the contents of this discussion page, and to please respect what we have agreed regarding adding commercial content. Why did you replace a generic sentence such as "Time & Attendance" systems use tags, badges or touch screens" with commercial names such as "iButton or Magstripe card.". And why do you delete the reference section? I think more references are needed and should not be deleted. Regarding commercial products, I think the best would be to create a section, or a separate list, where we will have examples of time & attendance products which already have an article at wikipedia (from all over the world). The following 2 lines appear like blatant commercialism to me. The south african one seems less so since the company is long gone. kronos is by far the biggest company in the space and has no mention. Clf99 (talk) 22:22, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

CipherLab Co Ltd, based in Taiwan, released in 1989 its first time and attendance data terminal.[2]
