Talk:Tilastokeskus
To be fair, I have worked in the organization of this article, and I resisted starting an article on it. After some thinking, I decided that starting an article on this is the most responsible thing to do.
Did some source-finding, but could not find an article that would explicitly state the importance of the said organization. Press releases of new compiled statistics and research results from Tilastokeskus are featured in practically all newspapers every day, most often as minor news, sometimes prominently. The focus on such news is almost exclusively on the subject matter released by Tilastokeskus, rather than the organization itself.
For example, new statistics from the causes of death for finnish men in 2005 caused a nation-wide stir, as it revealed alcohol as the new top killer. The topic of this research was featured prominently in Helsingin Sanomat, see [1] , and then on BBC news website [2]. Similar examples abound.
So, whether to qualify this as a notable organization to merit inclusion in english wikipedia, I'd consider that a judgement call. I guess that the lack of articles promoting the importance of Tilastokeskus is because it's results and statistics are so very rarely contested, and its style of publishing draws more attention to the subjects and less to the publisher.
