Let's Get This In Other Languages
[edit]Anyone out there who can speak a language other than English, please help out here. An Amharic and an Arabic one would be nice, but anything is needed! Please help! Interlaker 16:20, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
"Related ethnic groups"
[edit]There's some longterm edit warring over which peoples are related. I just reverted one; the editor claimed that only two "related" groups were verified in references one and two. Even if that were true, it doesn't mean that the others are not related, of course. Still, it's best if all the information in the infobox is properly verified and footnoted, and I urge Middayexpress and Birdwatcherblue to discuss and improve. Birdwatcher, if you keep this up, you might get blocked for edit warring. Midday, you suggested possible socking in an edit summary or two: it's always better to file an SPI or make a case than to just suggest it, so we can maybe do something about it. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 19:23, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- Agreed User:Drmies, but I don't think it really makes a difference in this instance whether or not links are provided. I added a link on the injera page to show where the dish likely originated, but he/she promptly changed that to include Eritrea [1]. CambridgeBayWeather is presently handling the matter, but full page protection may be necessary. The user also just reverted again on the Eritrea page and as an ip on injera. Middayexpress (talk) 19:36, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I'll be glad to keep my eye out, but I repeat my request for inline sources. You've been around the block, so you know: anytime someone removes sourced information they can expect extra scrutiny and a quick reverts, and perhaps a vandalism warning or two. It makes things much easier to handle. Drmies (talk) 00:09, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- The user is already aware that the ethnic groups in question are related; it just doesn't sit well with him. I could add this link explaining as much ("the Horn of Africa encompasses the countries of Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti and Somalia[...] these countries share similar peoples, languages, and geographical endowments"). But that too would still likely be a problem for him/her. Middayexpress (talk) 00:37, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- Middayexpress, my concern is not with them--they know what they know, and maybe what they don't know. I'm concerned with the next Recent changes patroller who sees these changes and can't really say "rv removal of verified content", and so maybe won't roll it back at all. If they see sourced content being removed it's an entirely different story--you get reverts and warnings. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 03:21, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- Understood. I've added the link above for the parameter. Middayexpress (talk) 13:26, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

religion
[edit]Islam 99.5%, Christianity 5%? So 4.5% are practicing both Islam and Christianity? --84.94.165.130 (talk) 03:05, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
What's going on?
[edit]The population number seems to be changing with no explanation and no reference to a source, and there has been some copyrighted material added to the article - I removed some, but I'm not sure if I got all. Akakievich (talk) 15:19, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
Subgroups
[edit]@LegacyVisual: I added in the subgroups with a citation to reliable published book, any reason why you undid that edit? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 22:55, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Legacy visual: Again you have removed it. Why? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 00:40, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
Religion
[edit]@LegacyVisual:Another issue here is religion. I added 95% Muslim from a published book source. You removed that and added 99.5%, but you cited a blog, not a book. Blogs are not reliable sources, as they are self published. Do you understand, and would you be willing to undo your edit regarding that? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 23:05, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
Very selective with your edits. Why are some legitimate and some are not legitimate? Many of the pages you reference are “Not found” or don’t exists. Self-serving, selective and manipulating behaviour LegacyVisual (talk) 23:13, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- LegacyVisual, Okay, that is not a constructive or helpful response. If you'd like to understand, please read our policy on reliable sources, and our restrictions on blogs and other self published sources. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 23:16, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
Hyper-surveillance and using other platforms to prompt anger and emotional response between Christian and Muslim is very petty but another form of abuse. LegacyVisual (talk) 20:19, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
- @LegacyVisual: Can you please link the reliable sources you refer to? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 20:59, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
- LegacyVisual, You still have yet to link any sources, and I have provided numerous references such as "Skutsch, Carl (2013-11-07). Encyclopedia of the World's Minorities. Routledge. pp. 1200–1201." and "akan, Muḥammad Zuhdī (1999). Almanac of African peoples & nations. Transaction. p. 667." where I have taken the majority of my info from. I have made no edits to the history of Christians or Muslims beyond correcting the percentage of adherents, which is reported as 95% in the "Encyclopedia of the World's Minorities". Unless you provide a better source, it will remain that way.
- I'll be quite honest: I have little knowledge on the subject beyond what I've read. Before two weeks ago, I had never heard of the Tigre. I know little about the internal ethnic politics of Eritrea. I'm not even sure who the Habeshan people are. I have no agenda regarding the Tigre, I simply want to create a good Wikipedia page.
- There has been no vandalism, or disruptive editing here. You are not being very helpful by trying to make this political. No attacks on Muslims has been made here whatsoever. If you really want to help improve the article, supply links to reliable sources that discuss the Tigre people. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 05:53, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
All that dissertation and no answer? Denying it solves nothing. Also you keep asking for reliable sources, you know the resources. You were actively deleting them. LegacyVisual (talk) 07:36, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
- LegacyVisual, What is your question that you seek an answer to? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 19:59, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Howdy hello User:92.236.32.233, could you please provide some reliable sources for your changes? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 20:11, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

Deletion proposal for Tig (Tigrinya language)
[edit]I have proposed the deletion of the page Tig (Tigrinya language). This page aims to clarify the distinctions between Tigrinya, Tigre, Tigrai, & numerous derived terms. You can find the deletion discussion page here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tig (Tigrinya language). Very briefly, I do not oppose some clarification page as such, but rather oppose the invented term tig. I strongly encourage those who are following this page & who have an opinion on the matter to vote or comment at the deletion discussion—whether or not they agree with me.
