Etymology

I wonder if the sentence flows better if written "Norse influence altered its name to..." This is merely a suggestion, though.
I suggest wiki-linking Scots to Scots language, and rendering the Scots name with italics rather than quotation marks so that it is consistent with the other historical names of the town.
