Clean up

this article needs a major rework. some of the facts stated are not true or have been obsoleted. the article in the german wikipedia is remarkably detailed and it would be nice if somebody with better english skills could translate some of it. for example "The company gained worldwide prominence when it was reported that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and members of his terrorist network used Thurayas, as they are harder to pinpoint the location of than regular cell phones.[2]" is simply wrong. the indian company shogi provides a comprehenive surveilance kit for pinpointing and wiretapping thuraya handsets in a very large territory. the usage of gps in every handset to associate it to a spot-beam even facilitates this process.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.104.126.171 (talk) 22:10, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Signal strenght at handset?

So this handset has a normal looking antenna that sends it signal 35 thousand kilometers away? Boy, how strong must that signal be to achieve that? Isn't that dangerous to the health of people around that phone? Peter S. 12:15, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

the actual output power of these things is surprisingly low. I found a document about a Thuraya repeater here that has an output power of 1 watt. link the antennas are directional I think so it won't work if you point them down at the ground - much like Iridium phones that pump out about 1-1.6 watts. Shia and Sunni prayirng times

Hi, to prevent all possible misinterpretations: The sent. ending with 'Sunni and Shiats' was used in that way as in Dutch Shia Muslims can be calles 'Shiats' - thats the only reason, nothing to do with my reliogion or a slur against others!! --JanT (talk) 13:53, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
