Really based on Thunderbirds?
[edit]According to the Trivia for Thunderbirds 2086 at Anime News Network[1] only the dub is related to Thunderbirds and the original version, Techno Voyager, has nothing to do with Thunderbirds at all. Can anyone confirm or debunk this? --GracieLizzie 23:05, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'm by no means an authority on this, but according to [2] the show was based on the original series. This is supported by the fact that the animated Thunderbirds vehicles all have a "TB" logo on them, and some of the vehicles are clearly based on those from the original series, as is the overall premise of the series - [3]. Gerry Anderson and the team behind the original Thunderbirds certainly had nothing to do with the animated series, so it isn't seen as an official continuation of the original story.

TB is really the Japanese error. It should really read TV on all craft. The Japanese do not have a 'V' sound so substitue a 'B' instead.
"TB" stands for "TechnoBoyger", which would be the literal romanization of "TechnoVoyager", so in truth it really isn't related to Thunderbirds at all. The two sources seen may not be reliable, especially TV.com. Anyhow, the article is too biased towards the English dub anyway, so it really needs balancing. TB was just a lucky accident
[edit]The TB logo on the vehicles was simply an accident of the way B and V are the same in Japanese. The original anime had nothing at all to do with Thunderbirds or Gerry Anderson. The TecnoBoygers anime DID have a very, very distant relationship to Terrahawks, of all things. And the anime Mospeada. But not Thunderbirds.
The Thunderbirds name and anything else to do with Thunderbirds was simply added by the English dubbing producers. The idea was simply to capitalize on the Thunderbirds name. ITC was behind the show so they basically got away with what they did because ITC wasn't going to sue itself. Patrick AWA 20:04, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- Watch an episode of Thunderbirds, then watch an episode of this anime, and do it with the sound off so you can't hear the dubbing. The similarities are far more than the dubbing alone.
- For example the way the crew are lowered into their craft, the craft being based on an island headquarters, the taking off from an underground silo, the similarities of some of the vehicles (TB4 is a yellow rescue submarine in both series), the general idea of the series.
- It's not exactly the same, but if you watch episodes from the two series back to back there's far too much that is the same for them to be totally unrelated. The fact that the same company was behind both series makes it even more plausible that the older series inspired the newer one to some degree. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.146.46.247 (talk) 03:26, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
Just because the same company had some involvement with it, doesn't necessarily mean that the creators approve. Anyway, this goes into a larger issue, and Wikipedia isn't the place to discuss it. I am planning to see if I can balance this article to talk about both versions. Brittany Ka (talk) 20:12, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
Proposed merge with List of Thunderbirds 2086 episodes
[edit]One season of episodes isn't enough to warrant a unique article. Per editing norms by the WikiProject Television community, only when a series has broken out into a second season (of a significant number of episodes) would we entertain a unique article for the episode list. Fanfiction Spawned.
[edit]Several fan fictions have been written using the characters and vehicles from the series at fanfiction.net. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.111.115.16 (talk) 13:15, 24 August 2017 (UTC)
This is really confusing
[edit]It only says on the infobox that Kimio Ikeda directed it, yet in the End Credits section, he isn't listed as a director.
