Village questioned

[edit]

References found seem to list Thumaita as a sublocation, rather than as a village. See for example the description at "Thumaita Tea Factory Company Limited". I did find a village named Gakurwe, at the same (gross) lat & long as listed for Thumaita at "Thumaita Sub-Location". MapCarta., namely 00°26′S 37°21′E / 0.433°S 37.350°E / -0.433; 37.350. See Gakurwe (Approved) at GEOnet Names Server in the United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency database. In that database the only listings for Thumaita were for the administrative sublocation of Thumaita with the above coordinates, and the Thumaita mission slightly further south and slightly further east at 00°27′S 37°22′E / 0.450°S 37.367°E / -0.450; 37.367. It looks to me like the village of Thumaita does not exist. --Bejnar (talk) 20:26, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

However, with more searching I found over a dozen mentions of "Thumaita Village" in the Kenya Gazette with this search in GoogleBooks: "Thumaita Village". Most of those were probate notices for people who either lived or died in Thumaita Village, or whose executor (administrator) lived there, but two dealt with liquor licenses. Anyway Thumaita Village is in Baragwi Location of Kirinyaga District, which is different from the Thumaita Tea Factory Company Limited which is listed in Thumaita sublocation of Karumandi location, Kirinyaga District. http://www.ktdateas.com/index.php/factories/307-thumaita-tea-factory-company-limited-profile Most of the mentions of Thumaita in the Kenya Gazette indicate that Thumaita sublocation is in Baragwi location, see for example the deed at "Gazette Notice 2233". Kenya Gazette. 21 April 1995. p. 731.. So either there are two Thumaita sublocations or the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) is wrong about the location of the tea factory. There is one mention in the scanned Kenya Gazetttes available at GoogleBooks about a Thumaita sublocation in Karumandi location, a 1994 estate notice "Gazette Notice 7060". Kenya Gazette. 4 November 1994. p. 2108.. So maybe there are two Thumaita sublocations. Nevertheless, Thumaita Village is always within the Baragwi Location when the location is mentioned. --Bejnar (talk) 02:41, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
