Amalgam fillings
[edit]Some sources, such as this one, claim that Evans invented the silver amalgam filling, but the amalgam (dentistry) article disputes this. I have checked the source there (Ferracane, Jack L. (2001). Materials in Dentistry: Principles and Applications. Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. p. 3. ISBN 0781727332. {{cite book}}: Cite has empty unknown parameter: |coauthors= (help)), which seems to be reliable, and it says what the "amalgam" article does: the amalgam filling wasinvented in France in the early 1800's and came to the United States in the 1830's; this rules out its having been invented by Evans.
The American Text-book of Operative Dentistry attributes the first amalgam filling to "Taveau"; it also mentions the later use, in 1849, of a tin-cadmium amalgam by Thomas Evans. —Dominus (talk) 14:32, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Source of Wealth
[edit]This must be OR, I suppose, but I know from a close relative, my grandmother in fact, who knew Evans quite well when she was a girl, that he made a lot of money by becoming privy in advance to Haussmann's plans for Paris, and buying up land that would be required.
