Sedition vs Treason
[edit]"Thomas Hickey (died 28 June 1776) was a Continental Army soldier who was executed for mutiny and sedition early in the American Revolutionary War. He was the first person executed for treason against what was to become the United States.[1]"
Sedition and Treason are not the same thing. But these two lines state he was executed for both. One says Treason, one says sedition. Very different crimes. Needs cleaning up unless someone can explain the inconsistency? 96.31.177.52 (talk) 08:41, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
He must have been charged with treason. He didn't mutiny, and sedition would not be a capital offense. Incidentally, was he a private or a sergeant? Sources differ.203.184.41.226 (talk) 06:20, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
First American executed for treason
[edit]Considering that the time of his death, the Declaration of Independence hadn't even been signed yet, is it really accurate to state that he was the first "American" to be executed for treason against the "United States"? I'll reword it to "first person to be executed for treason in what was to become the United States". howcheng {chat} 18:20, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
McCurley genealogy
[edit]Copy at Historical Society is not a citation. WHICH FILE what collection, published when and by whom. Noted Genealogist says someone noted her cite that! How many more published sources does this article need? Leave out the unpublished and the opinions. Unlike user 173.59.124.196 I identify myself it would take about a 5 minute search to find my Phone and e-mail for discussion. --GramereC 11:28, 25 August 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by GramereC (talk • contribs)
AGAIN the McCurly notes were left in a family file at PA Genealogical Society the Historical Society copied them and keeps them. They are UNPUBLISHED RESEARCH stop posting this.GramereC 23:47, 24 August 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by GramereC (talk • contribs)
- You state, without evidence, that Elizabeth Fraunces had the nickname "Phoebe." The widow of a descendant of Elizabeth Fraunces, Mrs. John Fraunces McCurley (a noted genealogist), reports no such thing.
- McCurley's work, though unfinished, is respected enough that the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, the New York Historical Society and the Fraunces Tavern Museum added it to their collections.
- There is no published reference to a "Phoebe Fraunces" before January 1876. And that magazine article is unsourced.
- Your work mixes fantasy with fact. Unless you separate the two, it does not belong on Wikipedia. 173.59.124.196 (talk) 03:36, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
Elizabeth Fraunces married Atcheson Thompson at Trinity Church NYC not Christ Church. Christ Church has records for children of Atcheson and Elizabeth Thompson/Thomson: Atcheson, Anna Moore, Atheson Allen Cunningham, James, George Harrison. Trinty Church has records for Sarah Fraunces Thompson and Samuel Fraunces Jr is her sponsor in baptism at TRINTY NYCGramereC 00:08, 25 August 2011 (UTC).GramereC 00:08, 25 August 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by GramereC (talk • contribs)
There is absolutely no reference to Phoebe or Hickey in these unpublished papers. IT IS AN UNPUBLISHED REFERENCE.
In the file referred to are the working files of Troy Saul McCurley wife of John Fraunces McCurley. bacground listed below of Lawrenceville VA. She proposes that there is a daughter Elizabeth born 1799 which she thinks is in error and should be 1789 and that this daughter should have a baptism at Trinity Church NYC. there is no baptism. The DAR registration linked from Fraunces page. Christ Church baptism's for Elizabeth and Catherine. References to Francis family NOT FRAUNCES. Typed transcripts of property transfers. In which the initial M is interjected in error with Samuel M Fraunces. The notice of Tavern moving from 166 South Second to 59 S Water St. With a note that business was carried on by son Samuel M Francis(This is Samuel Mifflin Francis son of Turbutt Francis not Samuel Francis Jr. The distribution of property after Samuel's decease. Records for Samuel M Francis which are the records of Samuel Mifflin Francis. there is also a genealogy provided for McCurley from Elizabeth daughter of Elizabeth and Atcheson Thompson who has no records and it goes on for 4 generations none of which can be verified. in any records. She does mention as a step father Jacob Spicer Philadelphia merchant who by estate records is tied to Tench Francis family. none of which is relevent to Hickey anyhow.71.58.75.28 (talk) 21:45, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
The repeated reference to the notes left in a family file in Philadelphia and to a Mrs. John Fraunces McCurley are very misleading. The genealogy was never submitted anywhere for acceptance and did not have links from generation to generation. It did not link up to Fraunces at any point and referenced the ancestors of Samuel Mifflin Francis.
John Fraunces McCurley applied for an emergency passport for he and his wife Suzanne at the french embassy in 1920. They arrive in NYC August 16, 1920 and that is the last we see Suzanne in records. John Fraunces McCurley was single in 1917 on his draft registration. John Fraunces McCurley listed his father as William McCurley born in Philadelphia. William McCurley was a civil War veteren and was disabled in 1895 before John was born he was still in the Veterans home in 1890. John was born in 1891. There is no info to link William back another generation and the family would have to supply a marriage to verify the mother of John Fraunces McCurley.
John Fraunces Mc Curley remarried later in life that family is alive and well and can add their own info if they want to be identified.GramereC 20:41, 17 August 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by GramereC (talk • contribs)
Counterfeiting
[edit]Maybe we could expand on counterfeiting and who else was involved it would be good. GramereC 20:49, 17 August 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by GramereC (talk • contribs)
Elizabeth Fraunces Thompson and Atcheson Thompson
[edit]This repeated rewording of the McCurley genealogy shows that you have not tried to confirm the notes in the file, and that is all there are is notes.
Elizabeth Fraunces married Atcheson Thompson at Trinity Church NYC not Christ Church. Christ Church has records for children of Atcheson and Elizabeth Thompson/Thomson: Atcheson, Anna Moore, Atheson Allen Cunningham, James, George Harrison. Trinty Church has records for Sarah Fraunces Thompson and Samuel Fraunces Jr is her sponsor in baptism.
There is no daughter Elizabeth Thompson who married Benjamin Kirly one of the line proposed. What child of Elizabeth Fraunces is the progenitor of the McCurley line? It is not that it is impossible it is not PROVEN. There is nothing connecting the generations.
If you want to refute Phoebe fine but do it with facts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GramereC (talk • contribs) 16:55, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
BAD REFERENCE
[edit]These McCurley papers referenced are from an unpublished source. THEY SHOULD NOT BE USED A REFERENCE on Wikipedia. Papers held is a bad reference. I happen to have a copy of these papers because they are from a family line. They have nothing that pertains to Thomas Hickey in themGramereC 13:44, 22 August 2011 (UTC). They have been deleted but are reposted continually. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GramereC (talk • contribs)
