Name Suffix
[edit]The 'III' is an incorrect suffix to Thomas Carpenter's name. He is technically only a Jr (or a II since he had a son named Thomas). His father was Deacon Thomas Carpenter, and Deacon Thomas' father was Ensign Abiah Carpenter. The confusion arises from the Rehoboth Town Records which lists Thomas Carpenter 3d at one point. Talking to a professional genealogist, he explained that sometimes in old town records, they might call a person '3d' like that because there might be 3 people with the same name in town, but not necessarily related!
Technically, the house could be considered to have a correct name (Thomas Carpenter III House) since Col Carpenter's son Thomas did live in the house!
