Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station → Trivandrum Central — The name of the article was Trivandrum Central, which was the correct name of the railway station, until it was moved to Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station recently: [1]
The accurate name of the railway station is Trivandrum Central as per the official sites of the Indian railways.

Please move this page back to Trivandrum Central to reflect the accurate name of the station.

- Makes sense. I agree with dropping the "railway station" part. But am not that sure about the Thiruvananthapuram<->Trivandrum part. While Indian Railways still goes by the old station codes (MAS for chennai, TVM for Trivandrum) it does take into account the name change of cities. For example the station code remains MAS but the name has been changed to Chennai Central. So it should either "Thiruvananthapuram Central" or "Trivandrum Central". --Sodabottle (talk) 15:27, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
- In the case of Trivandrum Central, railway has not changed the station name. The official sites of indian railways reflects that. In case of Chennai, they have changed the station name to Chennai Central and retained the old code MAS. But in case of Thiruvananthapuram, the station name and code is not changed. - Comment: I notice that most railway station articles do have 'Station' appended to the name (King's Cross Station for example) though the use of 'Railway' is rare. Are you aware of articles on railway stations where the station qualifier is not included? Just wondering about consistency.--RegentsPark (talk) 16:36, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
- Most of the Indian railway station names do not carry the word "station". Hence the articles about such stations are created to reflect the accurate name. Eg; Mumbai Central, Chennai Central. Cheers, -- Rajith Mohan (Talk to me..) 06:34, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

- Support : The station obviously does not use "Thiruvanthapuram" ; it uses "Trivandrum"; the official name change do not reflect here; its much like Bomaby Stock exchange or IIT Madras. Since we have articles like "Chennai Central" i would recommend dropping station part as well. therefore, "Trivandrum Central" IMO. Arjuncodename024 17:22, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Proposal to create a sub article : Train services from Trivandrum Central

Revenue Earnings
[edit]Wikipedia Coimbatore page claims Coimbatore Junction is the second highest revenue yielding station in the Southern Railway and the same is also available in plenty of pages by googling. Pls clarify?

[edit]There was a presentation made by Mr.J.Vinayan,IRTS, Sr.Divisional Operations Manager,Trivandrum Division at TUNIFRA - 2011. A few points are listed down below. Hope this will get all an idea about Rail Infrastructure in Trivandrum..
Rail Infrastructure - A Perspective :
Saturated Line Capacity under Trivandrum Division
- TVC-QLN : 97.9 %
- TVC-NCJ : 114.1 %
- ERS-ALP : 123 %
- ERS-KYJ : 134.7 %
Trivandrum Central is a major coaching depot of Southern Railways.
- 5 Platforms & 5 stabling lines
- 5 pitlines with 24,24,22,18,15 coaches strength
- 19 daily originating,6 Weekly,2 Bi-weekly,2 Tri-weekly,5 Penta weekly,15 through trains(M/E/P)
- More than 75,000 passengers daily and is expected 1,00,000 passengers daily in two years.
- Primary maintenance of 30 express rakes
- Total Primary Coach holding at TVC is 634 coaches
- Total Secondary maintenance is 84 Coaches
- Platform Turn Round attention is 195 Coaches
Kochuveli
- 2 Platforms,3 Stabling Lines & 1 Pit line
- Pit line has 24 coaches strength
- 8 pairs of originating trains,5 weekly,3 Tri-weekly & 39 passing through trains (M/E/P)
- Average 1000 pasengers daily
Additional Infrastructure in Trivandrum area in budget 2011-12
- Nemom Coaching Terminal
- World Class Station mooted last year to take shape
- Multi Functional Complex
- Budget Hotel
- Development of facilities & approach of TVC with 50% assistance from Ministry of Tourism
- Trolley facilities extended to Trivancrum (Rail Yathri Sevak)
- Modern Laundry Proposed to be set up in TVC
- Electrification from TVC to NCJ to be completed
Proposals
- Develop Nemom as Satellite Terminal
- 7 km from TVC
- Already 27 acres of land available
- Another 60 acres to be acquired
- Install 8 pit lines,8 Stabling lines & 2 Platforms
- Double Nemom-TVC line, this will benefit Vizhinjam traffic also.
- Shift all Coaching operations & maintenace to Nemom
Final Picture
- Nemom with 8 pit lines will originate all trains to Kollam side
- Kochuveli with 3 pitlines will originate all trains to Nagercoil side
- Trivandrum withh all pits removed, will have 8 platforms, commercial facilities & set up the World class station as proposed.
- Multiple arrangements for a Metro for Trivandrum city to connect Thampanoor with the suburbs in future up to Kazhakkoottam-Balaramapuram-Nedumangad-Mannanthala to be connected.
- The single most important input we need to plan for is the development of Nemom as a Satellite Coaching Depot of TVC.
- Estimated cost about Rs.250 Crore only on today's prices

This is not the answer for my enquiry. Its all real facts.
Under Saturated Line Capacity of Trivandrum Division, u misses this stretch ERS-SRR FEDL : 115% which is the busiest stretch in Kerala State.
Then 75000 passengers, its because of Trivandrum central serving to the entire Trivandrum district. comparatively, Kochuveli is small. But other districts are different. For eg: Thrissur district served by chalakudy,Irinjalakuda, Thrissur and Wadakkanchery. In Ernakulam district, Kochi metro area served by Ernakulam Junction, Ernakulam Town, Aluva and Angmaly and for the district, besides these chalakudy too. Apart from TVC, Tivandrum district not having a major station like Aluva in ernakulam district. KCVL cant considered as it served only 7 departure trains. May be due to these reasons Trivandrum central revenue is high. --Bijuts (talk) 14:32, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Here TVC claims its the 2nd. Please clarify? And your answer Talk:Trivandrum_Central#Information_that_may_help is no connection with it. Its only TVC expansion plans.

Trivandrum Central → Thiruvananthapuram Central – Back in 2010 when this page was moved back to "Trivandrum Central", evidence was produced that, despite the name of the city being changed, Indian Railways still referred to the station by that name. In the intervening three years, Indian Railways appears to have caught up with the change, as shown on this timetable and this station index. The image now shown on the page quite clearly shows the station name as Thiruvananthapuram Central. --Relisted. Traffic figure
