Peacock terms
[edit]The article contains some peacock terms which need to be looked into. I'm listing all those which caught my attention.
He is considered one of the most learned Alvar and the most superior Alvar in the context of composition of verses
- Pillai uses: "one of the most erudite, was decidedly superior to all other Alwars in the knack of composing verses".--Redtigerxyz Talk 14:03, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Tiruvelukkutirukkai deals with the concept of surrender to God to attain freedom from suffering, the nature of God and the means of attaining Him
(I feel that the word "Him" appears to be highly emotonal, from a religious perspective)
- Him is for God. --Redtigerxyz Talk 14:03, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I can understand but the term "Him" appears a bit too philosophical here.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 14:08, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- Him is for God. --Redtigerxyz Talk 14:03, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Thirumangai shared a bitter hatred for other traditions, which he considered heretical
(Hatred and bitterness are one and the same. So why the need for using the word "bitter hatred")
- reworded with ref
Thirumangai plundered many rival Shaivas (devotees of the Hindu god Shiva) and lived on the acquired wealth
(could be replaced)
- rival includes rival sect. Vaishnavas and Shaivas are considered rival sects. al most the rival word can be dropped. --Redtigerxyz Talk 14:03, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 13:27, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- No, I don't have any problems with the word "rival". But the word "many" appears to be a peacock term. I recommend that it be replaced.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 14:08, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- These are all extremely minor issues. I just felt that the usage of words like "many" weren't appropriate. Anyway, I shall remove the tag on the article since I've brought it to your notice and the purpose has been fulfilled.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 14:11, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

- @SpacemanSpiff:, user Jkalaiarasan86 has been pushing his opinion on many a page. When asked to provide references he fails to do so and simply resorts to reverting the articles to his preferred version. Thirumangai Alvar belongs to Kallar caste. Sources - [1], [2]. Therefore request you to revert the article to a neutral version as per WP:NEUTRAL. Nittawinoda (talk) 17:47, 27 December 2018 (UTC)
@SpacemanSpiff: == Thirumangai alvar ==
