New Generations and Feminism section

When mentioning Riot grrrl being thought by some to be the beginning of third-wave feminism a citation for who "some" are would be helpful. Hyperlinks should be added to the Anita Hill and Clarence Thomas court cases — Preceding unsigned comment added by Charliemotion (talkcontribs) 18:38, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Reclaiming Derogatory Terms Addition

I think we should add a quote by notable third wave feminist Jessica Valenti under "Reclaiming Derogatory Terms" as an example of why some feminists would want to (or not to) reclaim such words: "The worst thing you can call a girl is a girl. The worst thing you can call a guy is a girl"[1] NotAHedgehog121 (talk) 20:09, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

Proposed merge with Womanism

Womanism seems to just be a subset of third wave feminism, it also seems to build on the shortcomings of second wave feminism, and has intersectionality Ethanpet113 (talk) 06:06, 14 October 2018 (UTC)

  • Oppose Two distinct, well-established subjects with abundantly scholarly sources, especially on womanism, and a well-developed entries that would not be served by a merge. Innisfree987 (talk) 06:08, 14 October 2018 (UTC)
  • Oppose. Womanism is a distinct movement/set of ideas. Womanist scholar Leli Phillips writes that "feminism is confluent with the expression of feminism, but feminism and womanism cannot be conflated, nor can it be said that womanism is a 'version' of feminism" (The Womanist Reader, p. xxi). Criticism Section

It seems inadequate to describe critiques of third-wave feminism without mentioning Camille Paglia or Christina Hoff Sommers. For example, Paglia described the 3rd Wave as comprised of "'pampered, affluent upper-middle-class professional women who chronically spout snide anti-male feminist rhetoric' and the movement as a whole for catering too much to the interests of 'privileged white middle-class girls at elite schools can’t seem to express themselves forcefully enough even to manage their own dating lives.'” (she has more substantive critiques too)[1] I know Sommers has a public record of her own beef here, but don't have a quote handy.

There is also a significant body of criticism against intersectional feminism in particular. Maybe have a section on that. Lukacris (talk) 01:19, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

That source is talking about second-wave feminists, not third-wave feminists. (A lot of the non-academic / culture-war press criticisms aimed at third wave feminism are actually about second-wave feminism - pretty much any critique that says that feminism went too far when it went beyond the struggle for legal equality falls into this category, though some commentators don't understand the divisions well - but Paglia actually knows enough to specify, in that piece, that she's talking about second-wave feminism.) --Aquillion (talk) 01:42, 13 November 2019 (UTC)

Intersecionality

In the header right under the quote from the article there is the sentence:"The term intersectionality—to describe the idea that women experience "layers of oppression" caused, for example, by gender, race and class—had been introduced by Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw in 1989, and it was during the third wave that the concept flourished.". Should it not be people, as male person of colour who is also descreminated against by class is also meant. I would change it myself but am no expert on the Topic nor a native English speaker. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:8109:C00:38A0:CDA:58B2:1FA5:5711 (talk) 14:41, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
