Page creation

[edit]

Needed a page explaining the thinned array curse; it's an important theorem, but hard to find a nontechnical summary on the net. Geoffrey.landis 13:29, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Geoffrey, I respectfully disagree completely. There is no "curse". That is merely an unreal way to regard one of the trade-offs involved in designing an antenna array. Engineering is largely about trade-offs, of which there are very many in every field, and it is unencyclopedic and inept engineering to imagine any kind of ill will or witchery behind them. Please consider a different way to explain what is notable without resorting to hearsay superstition.Cuddlyable3 11:53, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Diagram Needed

[edit]

A diagram would really help the reader to understand the problem. LorenzoB (talk) 04:09, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I created the image below. It's crap, but I think it helps illustrate the concept for those having a hard time doing so without a picture(I barely understood it) or at least gives us a starting point. BioTube (talk) 13:37, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The orange parts are the transmissions, the black parts are the rectennnas, the red parts show the main lobe(power generating part) and the green parts show the side lobes(lost energy). This bears no semblance to reality and is only to give a vague demonstration of the concept. The left image is one sender, the right multiple.
I agree that a diagram would be nice, but unfortunately, I don't think that the one proposed really does the job-- it's too confusing.
I wish I had the time to try to put together a good diagram, but I'm afraid that this is beyond the amount of time I'm willing to devote to unpaid work :( Geoffrey.landis (talk) 15:00, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just made it to help illustrate what a diagram might look like. It was crap, though. BioTube (talk) 17:04, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The math at Phased array is fairly dense and we agree that the subject needs good diagrams. We have to balance that with the policy that Wikipedia is not a tutorial. Here is an interactive tutorial site which may give you an idea of the tradeoffs involved in constructing an array. Cuddlyable3 (talk) 17:39, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
