[edit]Note that there are contentless pages for many of the individual islands, which should perhaps be changed to redirects here. —Centrx→talk • 05:55, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- I second that. Also there seem to be duplicates in Category:Thimble Islands, someone knowledgeable should double check all the info and do the appropriate mergers. Pascal.Tesson 17:34, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
Which kind of mile?

Merger proposal
[edit]An editor has twice redirected Stony Creek-Thimble Islands Historic District to this article, which would bring in other material about the portion (no one yet knows how big) of the district that is in the Stony Creek mainland area, not part of the Thimble Islands. I don't think this is likely to be a good idea, but is there support here for merging this Thimble Islands article into the Stony Creek article, or vice versa? I guess for discussion sake I will make a merger proposal. I am indifferent about it actually. If that merger is done, then further it could be discussed whether merging the NRHP HD article into that merged geo article would make sense. doncram (talk) 02:15, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- Good grief! Why would an article about a group of islands be merged with an article about an adjacent mainland area with a different name? OPPOSE. --Orlady (talk) 02:53, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- Well, maybe someone wants to make one combo article, first, which then could be argued as being the appropriate target to merge the NRHP HD into. I don't really buy either step, but logically I think you need the combo article. Or maybe this should be a three-way merger proposal, to cover both possible mergers at once. doncram (talk) 04:38, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
I don't think the two articles should be combined. They are two separate concepts: the Thimble Islands, and the historic district that encompasses the islands and some of the mainland. One is a geographical feature and travel destination; the other a town planning district. They have different audiences/searchers. Keep 'em separate but linked, so that people who search for the Thimbles can find there is a historic district that encompasses them. Laughing123 (talk) 16:12, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- This discussion seems to have been inspired (at least in part) by the mistaken information (due to an error in a source) that the historic district has an area of 14,000 acres, which would make it bigger than all of Stony Creek and the Thimble Islands (and nearly as big as the entire Town of Branford), and may have led to a perception that both Stony Creek and the Thimble Islands were minor parts of a large and significant HD. In fact, it appears that it the HD is only about 1,400 acres. I've changed the information in the HD article. --Orlady (talk) 16:29, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Wildlife?
[edit]I wonder if someone more knowledgeable could do a brief summary of what wildlife might be found on and around the islands. I know that there are no bears on Bear Island but deer and other wildlife have been reported. 65.79.173.135 (talk) 18:11, 6 May 2014 (UTC)Will in New Haven
