Marriages

[edit]

Thijs van Leer married Rosalie Peters in the early 1970s, and they divorced in the early 1980s. He then married Ruud Jacobs' widow with whom he had two daughters and a son, but they also divorced. When specifics are available, this information should be added to the page. Perhaps checking the Dutch wiki entry might yield the exact dates of the unions, and name of the second spouse.

The Early 80s

[edit]

Thijs van Leer collaborated in the early 80s with Spanish rock artist Miguel Ríos on at least three albums, i.e. not just the initially mentioned double album Rock & Ríos (1982). During those years Thijs also performed with Ríos on tour, as can be seen on a video recording of an undated 1983 live performance of Miguel Ríos' band, with Van Leer playing keyboards, during Ríos' El rock the una noche de verano tour. In that clip, Thijs can be seen briefly at about 2:13 into the video.

Given the more 'heavy' rock style of Ríos, these years show a Thijs van Leer breaking from previous more melodic progrock years, until he veered back to the more contemplative, strongly Baroque inspired melodic and harmonic lexicon of his earlier Introspection years. nv1962 23:21, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Raised in Amsterdam

[edit]

Contrary to what is mentioned in the present version of the article, Van Leer was not raised in Amsterdam, even though he was born there. He grew up in Hilversum and went to the Gymnasium (Grammar school) there. Hilversum is about 35 km south-east of Amsterdam. --Hansung02 (talk) 19:52, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Geneva conservatory

[edit]

The present text states that Van Leer studied at Geneva Conservatory. I doubt this. When would this have happened? He finished the Hilversum gymnasium when he was 18, in 1966. Subsequently he studied art history at the Amsterdam University for a few months but dropped out. After that, he was busy with Ramses Shaffy's musical group, at least during the whole of 1968, and in 1970 formed the Thijs van Leer Trio which quickly turned into Focus. No time to study in Geneva, it seems to me? --Hansung02 (talk) 20:05, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
