[edit]The link at his daughter, Matilda of Flanders, points to the WRONG Matilda, a century too early. I've removed the link until I can figure out which Matilda is the right one. --Michael K. Smith (talk) 04:49, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
coat of arms
[edit]I'm leaving the coat of arms in this article for now and it should temporarily be used as cut off point for arms of the counts of Flanders. I think to recall it was his son Philip who introduced the lion arms, but as I neither have time nor the source at hand I will leave this standing as such for now.--Caranorn (talk) 14:00, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Thierry or Theodoric?
[edit]In what sense is "Theodoric" his correct name? Even in English, isn't he basically always called "Thierry"? Adam Bishop (talk) 22:52, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- His name was neither Theodoric, nor Thierry. It was Dietrich...112.198.90.44 (talk) 14:56, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
And it be Derek in today's English. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.104.175.186 (talk) 03:58, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

Thierry, Count of Flanders → Theodoric, Count of Flanders – Needs to be moved back to the original title of the article. Article was unilaterally moved by another user with no explanation given. R9tgokunks ✡ 08:09, 19 March 2018 (UTC)--Relisting. —usernamekiran(talk) 17:47, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). –Ammarpad (talk) 08:29, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
- Note: I brought this for discussion from WP:RMT, because there are move and counter moves, so better discuss what the title should be.
- The article was created in 2003 with the current title: Thierry, Count of Flanders.
- 9 years later, in 2012 it was moved to Theodoric, Count of Flanders by another editor without discussion.
- The move was reverted 2 days later, to the original title by Adam Bishop.
- So this timeline shows the proposed title is not the original title as claimed. –Ammarpad (talk) 08:52, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
- I will have to check the sources, but my initial impression is the same as it was in 2012, that he is always called Thierry in English. Of course, this may be because I’m mostly familiar with him as a crusader, so maybe he’s usually called Theodoric in other contexts? Adam Bishop (talk) 10:37, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose. Almost always referred to as Thierry and the article was indeed created with this title and has had this title for almost all of its existence. In fact, it was the move to Theodoric that was done with no explanation except "more correct title", which it isn't. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:58, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
- Present title is fine (i.e., common in RS), although I would personally prefer Theoderic. (Theodoric strikes me as a bit old-fashioned, while Thierry is too French-looking for a count of Flanders from Alsace whose charters were in Latin.) Srnec (talk) 03:54, 26 March 2018 (UTC)

Procession of the Holy Blood in Bruges
[edit]Thierry of Alsace is attributed to bringing back from the Holy Land a few drops of Christ’s blood that were spilled by the lancing to his side? An annual procession still takes place in Bruges whereby the reliquary containing the blood is paraded through the streets with a deal of fanfare.A person on horseback takes the role of of Thierry. Should this be mentioned in the article? Dorkinglad (talk) 22:20, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
