What is Southend-on-sea?

[edit]

From the article "These New Puritans (sometimes abbreviated to TNPS) are a four-piece band from Southend-on-sea". Can somebody clarify/wikilink what is Southend-on-sea? People reading the article may have no idea. --xDCDx (talk) 14:08, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Huh?...Its quite a well known town. Even if you somehow don't know it it seems quite clear that it is a town or village or something.--Him and a dog 13:49, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Check "Ted Danson impersonator"

[edit]

Is this fact true that George Barnett is a 'Ted Danson impersonator', or is it vandalism? It seems a bit far fetched to me. Richard n 12:22, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Instruments / Band-Members

[edit]

Thomas Hein hasn't played bass for well over a year and is not credited with it on Hidden. 82.230.81.136 (talk) 16:29, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What's with the revert User:RB88public ?

[edit]

Hello RB88. Why have you reverted? I thought the new content brought the article up to date and actually talked about the band's sound and what defines the band? If you think my editing is clumsy then apologies, but surely it would be better if that content was worked into the article rather than a blanket revert to something out of date? 94.2.224.34 (talk) 16:13, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Here's what you added:
  • When performing live they are sometimes accompanied by a five-piece brass-woodwind ensemble. [1]
This is fine, but the placement is off. It should be after the current sound detail. But, that already mentions bassoon etc.
  • with an almost classical attitude towards musical form.
This one is from a review, not from a factual piece. It also follows a detail about Beat Pyramid with a detail about Hidden.
Again, it's a review used for info. Also, the level of detail is excessive. If anything it should go in the album page (which it already is in).
More non-WP:SUMMARYSTYLE. Again, if anything, it should go in the album article. This page is about the band.
  • although they have since made efforts to play down its importance to them.[4]
I couldn't find the info in the source. Especially, about the club nights it follows. Hence it's inaccurate.

from the junk reference (junk being the venue for the southend scene) [5]

Do you still feel any affinity with those people from Junk? “Not at all,” says George, shaking his head. “I don’t think that was a defining moment for These New Puritans at all. It was... nothing, really.

Why is there information / detail about the sound of Beat Pyramid and Beat Pyramid-era TNP (the artrocker quote), but almost nothing about their current sound? It is absurd that The Smurfs are listed as an influence on These New Puritans but not Benjamin Britten - something about which almost every article about them has picked up on.
Ok re 'classical' bit.
sadly i don't have time to make changes

Origins of the Name

[edit]

Did These New Puritans take their name for the infamous dance piece by the Michael Clark Dance Company? The piece is very well known, even outside of the Dance World, because of the involvement of Fashion Designer and Performance Artist Leigh Bowery and a documentary by Charles Atlas. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.63.200.244 (talk) 21:13, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that dance piece itself took its name from a song by The Fall (whose music soundtracked the piece), "New Puritan" (from 1980). Also, on Beat Pyramid in particular, the influence of The Fall seems noteworthy... 2fs (talk) 23:26, 13 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
