Settlement legality

[edit]

Since this article mentions the memo about Israeli settlements, I think it would be best to get a more accurate picture. Gershom Gorenberg's book Accidental Empire discusses this. Instead of saying settlements are flat out illegal, Meron said that international law would only allow temporary military settlements. It is a slight difference in wording but it allowed parts of the Israeli government to begin building settlements in the Golan and the West Bank under the guise of being Nahal settlements. I do not know proper etiquette for editing on wikipedia so if anyone wants to delve into this I feel it would improve the quality of the article. Blanking and proposed deletion

[edit]

I don't understand the blanking and proposed deletion at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Theodor_Meron&oldid=871646114 . Why not just revert to the last non-infringing version? (user:Seraphim System is on Wikibreak.) --Nbauman (talk) 16:26, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This seems to be the last non-infringing version. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Theodor_Meron&oldid=713434200 --Nbauman (talk) 16:40, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The notice doesn't lead to the infringing copy. http://www.irmct.org/en/about/principals/president Furthermore, it's a UN document, with no indication that it contains any copyrighted material. --Nbauman (talk) 17:46, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The source text has been archived to http://www.irmct.org/en/about/principals/former-principals. The UN-IRMCT terms of use do assert copyright and license only "to download and copy the information, documents and materials … from the Site for the User’s personal, non-commercial use, without any right to resell or redistribute them or to compile or create derivative works therefrom". —teb728 t c 20:22, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio analysis

[edit]

Since the user who posted {{subst:copyvio}} on the article also removed the entire page content, and since the source site has since archived the copied text to http://www.irmct.org/en/about/principals/former-principals, the Copyvios report is of no value.

Here is the correct Copyvios report for the last bad version.

The copyvio (or at least the worst) appears to have been introduced at version oldid=716181588; the previous version was oldid=713434200. Here are the Copyvios reports for these versions:

716181588: Copyvios report
713434200: Copyvios report That shows a 79% confidence, but much of the match is in the book list, which is not copyrightable. The other similarity is in the Legal career section, but that matches different places in the irmct page; so I would say it is not copied.

I just restored to that version. nableezy - 20:27, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George

[edit]

I notice there's an edit conflict regarding the abbreviation between user:217.196.227.2 and user:Lol1VNIO. From https://www.royal.uk/order-st-michael-and-st-george and https://www.thegazette.co.uk/notice/4033764 it appears that CMG is the correct abbreviation. sources

[edit]

To editor Johelme1: You need to provide sources if you want your edit to stick. Otherwise anyone is permitted to remove them. In the case of an honor or prize, listing on the website of the organization which awarded it is sufficient. Zerotalk 14:34, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
