Called "Theo"
[edit]The 2017 book Koh-i-Noor: The History of the World's Most Infamous Diamond calls this person "Theo Metcalfe". Perhaps 20 popular media sources have reviewed either the book or published commentary about the Koh-i-noor in response to the book and these sources also are mentioning this person's relationship to that diamond. Following the book, the new sources also are calling this person "Theo Metcalfe". I wanted to make a note here about Theo Metcalfe being the contemporary name by which this person is known. Report on the Koh-i-noor
[edit]In Koh-i-Noor: The History of the World's Most Infamous Diamond Dalrymple says that Dalhousie sent Metcalfe orders to write a report on the history of the Koh-i-noor before 1849, and that he published that same report shortly after. Dalrymple says that both the Dalhousie request and the Metcalfe report are in the National Archives of India and cites them. So far as I know, neither scans nor the text of either of these are online. Here are the citations as Dalrymple presents them in the notes:
- National Archives of India, Foreign Dept, Political, Foreign 1849 Dept Pol Consultation 22 Dec, No 11, Orders for the collection of information about the history of the Koh-i-noor
- National Archives of India, Foreign Dept, Political, Foreign 1850, 14 June No. 72, item 14. Theophilus Metcalfe to Sir Henry Elliot, 7 January 1849
I presume that Dalrymple has copies also. Blue Rasberry (talk) 13:41, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
