Penn Jillette
[edit]Is the part about Penn Jillete not liking a line in the song really notable enough to be in here?68.165.5.137 (talk) 23:20, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Where was this recorded?
[edit]The article on the Shaft album (Shaft_(album)) sort of implies that the film version was recorded at MGM in LA, but the album version was re-recorded at Stax in Memphis. That might be true, but Stax didn't have the facilities to record the orchestral string parts, so they must have been done in LA. Does anyone know the truth? [edit]In the 1970s, FM station WPIX (101.9, New York City; now WFAN-FM) used an edited version of "Theme from Shaft" for their hourly news programs during the morning and afternoon hours. This edited version combined elements of the movie's opening and closing themes.
I recall hearing this in my youth, and as proof I shall attempt to provide links to airchecks of this, should they be available publicly.

The signature guitar "shooting riff" has been prominent for decades as a sample for the title music of daily sports news on Swedish public tv, as evidenced here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=650cBFWAFNw
It's been a key part of the title theme as far back as I can remember (means around the mid-eighties), and no doubt dates back to the seventies. Notice Björn Borg in one of those snippets! These days it's been reworked a bit, but parts of the sample and the tune are still clearly present. 83.254.154.164 (talk) 19:53, 4 July 2015 (UTC)
