[edit]I wonder if "Set against the strict codes and manners of the age .." (the opening phrase) should be cut. No period has been mentioned, nor - except by implication - is the period the film of the film's action identified in the article. It would be hard to find a period in which forgery and theft would not be seen as deserving expulsion, so the point of the phrase is rather obscure.
