"Thick Southern accent"
[edit]This is an offensive phrase. Would it not be equally appropriate to say that Lee Remick speaks in a thick northern accent?
- Wrong too. He was pretending to be a Texan. Clarityfiend 04:46, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- And Garner was apparently blithely using the actual Oklahoma accent that he grew up with and had to fight so hard to lose when he became an actor. He demonstrates a bit of it during his appearance on What's My Line? for the release of Paddy Chayefsky's classic The Americanization of Emily. The Final Edict (talk) 16:46, 26 December 2020 (UTC)
An Uber-Sophisticated Comedy
[edit]Whats shocks and thrills the modern viewer screening this film today is the sophisticated wit of so much of the dialogue, which positively jolts like an electric chair in the context of today's PC perspective. Don't let the Greek chorus with Chill Wills throw you, this unappreciated masterpiece is a trove of witticisms to treasure starring one of the finest light comedians ever to grace the American screen.
