Lantern Entertainment is different from The Weinstein Company
Disclosing that I am an employee of the company Lantern Entertainment, I am noting that this article is incorrect in saying Lantern Entertainment is the new name for The Weinstein Company. The correct information is that The Weinstein Company has effectively dissolved and sold its assets in a bankruptcy court to Lantern Capital for $289 million. Lantern Entertainment owns those assets, but is an entirely separate company. How can this page be edited to reflect the accurate information?

- I think we do need two articles. The Weinstein Company is by far the better known at present, and the principal article should be at that name, and will give the information about the sale of the assets. Latern is notable enough by itself for a separate page, where the link can be briefly stated. I'm prepared to do the split. DGG ( talk ) 17:10, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
DGG ( talk ) Is this split happening? The pages are still listed as one and sharing incorrect information about the sale of TWC vs. the sale of assets and launch of a new company (i.e. Lantern Entertainment) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ekparker63 (talk • contribs) 17:33, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
Hi All,
I'm looking into how to edit the article and separate The Weinstein Company page from the Lantern Entertainment page as they are two separate entities. Any guidance into how to do so would be greatly appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LanternEntMktAsst (talk • contribs) 19:25, 11 October 2018 (UTC)
- This the same company per WP precedence (DreamWorks, Marvel Entertainment, Disney Company) as the bulk of the Weintstein Company assets were purchased by Lantern Entertainment. The current Lantern Entertainment is up for deletion discussion to get it removed so the correct full Lantern Entertainment article is move their. Spshu (talk) 17:42, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
- @DDG:, per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lantern Entertainment some editors believed we were in some sort of edit war. DDG, you don't seem to understand that we do not do things based on what company's want us to do. Nor does Lantern Entertainment rise to notability with out inheriting Weinstein Company's, which would admit that it is Weinstein. This article about Lantern-Disney legal issue that go back to them acquiring ownership of Weinstein assets. Legal entities DO NOT effect WP articles as point out above or we would have a new article for every change in every business's type, state of registration or name change. - Lantern Entertainment, Inc. → The Weinstein Company
- List of Lantern Entertainment films → List of The Weinstein Company films
– Most of the article, which was recently moved from The Weinstein Company, discusses the now-defunct Weinstein Company. Not only are The Weinstein Company and Lantern Entertainment legally separate companies (see discussions above), The Weinstein Company is clearly what establishes the notability of the article, making it rather a kind of WP:COATRACK.
Even if we decided to make the article primarily about Lantern Entertainment, Inc., the natural target would be Lantern Entertainment, per WP:NCCORP. But Lantern Entertainment had already existed before the move of this article to its current name, and now redirects to this article. So I have a suspicion the article was moved to the current name (with "Inc.") just to avoid collision with that page, which would have been essentially a WP:CONTENTFORK except that article is now hidden in the revision history.
That is not the procedure. The procedure is to first ask the community (1) whether this article should be located at The Weinstein Company or at Lantern Entertainment (or somewhere else); and if former, (2) whether Lantern Entertainment is notable enough to have its own article. #2 can be debated at Talk:Lantern Entertainment or by opening an AfD if this discussion results in a move as proposed. - Support (revert the undiscussed moves) - We should absolutely retain the articles at the correct name and document it as a defunct company. The LE About page says it is "a newly established and independent film and television production company" - secondary sources back this up[1]. So, the article already started at Lantern Entertainment should be revived and continue forward. This article should be reverted to reflect the Weinstein name, but of course link to the Lantern Entertainment article (both in text as part of documenting where its assets ended up and in a hatnote to aid people in finding the new company). -- Netoholic @ 17:25, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
- Support (revert undiscussed moves) per Netoholic. It was unilaterally moved by DillPickle886, and this kind of massive kind of company change needs a full discussion about whether or not to make a distinction. It's not as simple as the company updating its name. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 17:33, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
