Legal name
The company's legal name is Disney Enterprises, Inc. why is it not in the page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.50.167.88 (talk) 12:46, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
- Probably because "The Walt Disney Company" is the most widely recognizable name. It's the same reason why the Tails (character) article isn't titled "Miles 'Tails' Prower", or why the Lady Gaga article isn't titled "Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta". Move
Will Someoue Move This To Disney Enterprises Inc? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.153.125.171 (talk) 22:06, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
- No, you're nuts. As any sophisticated person is aware, it has become increasingly fashionable nowadays to use a separate entity to hold intellectual property for tax purposes. Disney Enterprises, Inc. is merely the entity used by Disney to hold the title to their works for hire but the ultimate parent is still The Walt Disney Company. Similarly, this is why Arby's items and their Web site refer to "Arby’s IP Holder, LLC" even though the company is actually Arby's Restaurant Group, Inc. --Coolcaesar (talk) 04:23, 13 June 2016 (UTC)
- Instead of calling another good-faith editor "nuts" or implying they aren't "sophisticated", I shall take the more civil approach to the question. WP:COMMONNAME advises that we use the most well-known name for the organization, and in that case that would be "The Walt Disney Company". There's also the business term "d/b/a", or "doing business as", in which a company incorporates as one thing but refers to itself as something else; that could apply here, and again COMMONNAME would apply. --McDoobAU93 14:27, 13 June 2016 (UTC)
- Concur with McDoobAU93. Sorry for the tone of my comments. Now that I think about it, it was explained to me by one of the foremost experts on American corporate income tax law, so it wasn't that well-known at the time I learned about it over a decade ago. --Coolcaesar (talk) 17:23, 13 June 2016 (UTC)
