Comments

• "Art historian Lilien ..." - please begin this "The art historian" (twice).

• "Composed in 1888" - seems the wrong verb for a painting. Could be "Created" or just "Painted".

• Please wikilink Ottomans, Palm Sunday, art historian, embroidery, Balkans, Serbia, Montenegro on first appearance in main text.

• In the portrait's caption, please add a brief gloss for Obrenović, and the name of the artist (and wikilink if possible).

• "Jovanović was promoting ..." - please format as a quote, for instance using {{quote| ... }}. You might want to do the same for "a reminder of Serb achievements ..." and "further historical testimony ...".

• Author Tim Judah - please find a better gloss than the weak "Author". He's a journalist specialising in Serbia, admittedly an awkward phrase: see if you can do better than that!

• Author Anamaria Segesten - again, please find a better gloss. She describes herself as "a political scientist with an interest for identity, collective memory and conflict. In particular I am focused on Europe and the European Union as well as on the Balkan region and its cultural history and politics."

• Three-fingered salute inspired by the composition: is this explicitly stated by Segesten? I'd suggest you include a quote in the citation (|quote= ...), if so. If not, a citation is needed here.

• First shown in 1889: was that at the National Museum of Serbia or was the donation later?

• Alongside The Proclamation of Dušan's Law Codex and The Migration of Serbs - perhaps a brief word about the relative significance of these works and their context, with dates, would help to clarify the importance of The Uprising at Takovo.

I've wikilinked some publishers. Overall this is a very neatly-constructed article with unimpeachable references which needs little improvement. I'll be happy to pass this at GA as soon as the small changes listed here have been made. Chiswick Chap (talk) 10:14, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

All done, save for two of your points. Regarding the three-fingered salute, Segesten says "...it is said to have originated precisely with the painting." (very bottom of page 143). As for the National Museum, Filipovitch-Robinson doesn't say, merely asserting: "The painting was shown in 1889, the year following major internal and external threats and difficulties for the young kingdom of Serbia..." (top of page 53) and "Its original purchaser donated it to the National Museum after obtaining reproduction rights..." (page 60, note 61) 23 editor (talk) 18:27, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

I think that the article name should be either "Uprising at Takovo" or "The Takovo Uprising".
